RX-7 FC Drift Build
What’s up Dudes and Chicks, I’m in the process of turning my boring 1989 RX-7 FC S5 NA Automatic into a full spec drift car but with carpet and interior panels.
That’s how the car sat the day i brought it home. So far I’ve gotten rid of both front and rear bumpers and beams, fenders. Motor and auto trans were removed as well as all the engine wiring. I’ve cut off the front end and have Chairslayers bolt in tube frame on it way.
Replaced both crash beams with Street Factions Jack Point Bash Bars.
I will be cutting the herpes off the driver side frame rail and repairing that. Both subframes and full drive train is removed as well as fuel lines and brake lines.
Both subframes we’re blasted and power coated as well as the rear trailing arms. Up front i ditched all the stock suspension. I bought the FDF raceshop mantis wide angle kit. Power steering rack was gutted and de powered. Just need to weld up some holes on that and send that off to powder coat. For the Rear i purchased all of Part Shop Max’s solid bushings.
The Front angle kit i opted for the 350z wheel bearings as they make life so much easier to get parts and replace. I’m currently working on running Part Shop Max’s Z32 calipers up front as well as dual calipers in the rear. For the front i tried running z32 rotors but the 280mm rotor wasn’t wide enough and my pads were handing off 15mm. So after lots of research and measuring i found out the ER34 (R34 2.5 Turbo GTT) rotors have the same hat size as the z32 rotors but they are 310mm which give me a the circumference i need and are 30mm thick like the z32 calipers require.
These photos are with the z32 rotors waiting for my r34 rotors. As for the rear I’m currently at complete loss need to mock up new brackets and test fit some rotors to see what works best.
Still debating on coil overs thinking about the Part Shop Max comp series with adjustable camber and caster.
Next step once this is done and installed. I’m going to be working on a fuel cell and fuel pump set up.
i was originally going to do T2 motor Semi PP with a street port and big whirley boii. And full T2 drive train but sheikh how parts are becoming more scarce and prices are sky rocketing I’m scratching the T2 drive train idea. 99% sure i will be going with a Ronin 8.8 mount and Carless’ JK40C mounting adaptor for the 370z trans if he does another batch (Reason i made this account was to be able to contact him 😅 Then run drive shaft shops rear axles and possibly have them make me a drive shaft from 370z trans to 8.8 diff.
Any input on fuel cell setups is greatly appreciated btw as well as if anyones running dual z32 calipers on the rear how you did it to save me some time 🤣. Once the drive train is all said and done and the car can roll on its own again i will be sending the motor off to be built and ported and i will begin the body work.
