ON Rotary Rookie

Gid'day,
My names Jeff and I live outside of Ottawa Canada. I've just bough my first RX-7 - It's an '83, and I'll be picking it up this Saturday. I've driven Mazda's for years, and I wanted to get a sports car for a change. I drove muscle cars in my younger days but now that my kids are all driving I wanted them to have something fun to drive.
Cheers,
Jeff

Thanks for the welcome Kent. I'll send pics when I get a chance - the first thing I'm going to do is get it shined up and detailed and go for a long drive!
Cheers,
Jeff

Wow, lucky! I'm only 15 and I don't even have a car or license. I can't wait to get my G1, but I wish we could go straight to a full license like back then

Cool

Make sure you stay in school, work hard, save your money and buy a car. Be sure to take all the shop classes you can so you can wrench on the car yourself. I came from the school of hard knocks, but I sure learned to wrench on cars! I have twin daughters who I bought the RX-7 for and I'm teaching them how to fix it - if they want it, they have to do the work!

Lucky - my dad doesn't know too much about cars, and he never works on them. Yes, this year I took autoshop, and I'm taking two autoshop classes next year. I have had an interest for cars ever since I could talk. The only reason I didn't take autoshop last year was because it wasn't available. I kind of wish my dad knew how to work on cars and teach me, because he has no interest in them and I really want to fix ad mod cars more often!

Welcome! Nice to have our neighbors from the north join the forum.

I noticed that a lot of countries have pretty strict licensing procedures. Here in California, if you're under 18 you get a provisional license, which doesn't allow you to drive between 11:00pm - 5:00am unless a licensed driver over the age of 25 is with you & you can't carry passengers under the age of 20. 18 & over, you're free to do w/e you want.

ON My 82 RX-7

Finally here's a couple of pictures of my new toy. It's actually for my twin daughters - it's incentive for them to learn to drive a standard, but I get to drive it until they're comfortable with a stick. I just picked it up last weekend and we've started going over it in detail to get it ready for the road. I've had my girls learn some basic automotive work ever since they were little, and now they get a lot more hands-on starting with the brakes, intake gasket, rad, suspention, detailing, etc. They'll drive all the boys wild! The nice thing is no back seat (I have to do something to keep the boys at bay). One thing for sure is they'll know more about cars than most of the guys in their school (and have a nicer ride).

Damn, lucky daughters of yours! I have a strong will to learn to mod and fix cars, drive standard and learn all off the advanced driving techniques to make you a better driver, but all my parents have is a boring auto 2002 Camry My parents treat cars as an appliance/tool, not something you can have a connection with.

All I have to support me is an autoshop and the internet. I've been using the autoshop since last year and the internet for gaining car knowledge ever since I learnt to read. Most of my spare time is dedicated to gaining knowledge of cars (surfing forums, watching build videos, internet info pages, etc.) because it is my hobby and passion.

I'm glad provisions are in. I just pulled out a 17 year old cutie out of her M3 Convertible BMW because she crashed in the woods, when I was on my way to Block Buster to rent Street fighter vs. Tekken! I'm still waiting to play it. Car before games! Business before pleasure!

Same here, if my kid happens to like cars like me and he wants to build cars, I will be spending quite a lot of time in the summer with my kid in the garage.

Well, I guess for me I wish I could go straight to a full license, but by the time I have a full license and see all the new drivers who can't drive I will be thankful that there are graduating licenses. For now though, I just can't wait to get a license, regardless of full or learner's permit!
