Rotary Enthusiast Girl - Columbus, OH
Hello all! I'm not exactly new to the rotary scene, but I finally decided to introduce myself. I'm Angelica, or Gelly to most. I started my rotary fascination years ago through guy friends that owned them, and I finally decided last year while I was still at home in TN to begin my battle. I recently moved to Columbus, OH, so I'm more than happy to make any rotary friends up here!
First rotary: white 1987 RX-7 GXL FC3S for $1800 -> When I bought this car, it was bone stock. I had little to no mechanical knowledge and wished to learn about it, so I did! Unfortunately for me, the JERK that told me he rebuilt the engine either lied or used the old coolant seals, because they went in about 6 months, regardless of my careful maintenance and concern. I only did a minimal amount of work to this FC, as school and work took all of my free time. I still haven't decided whether to rebuild her, part her out, or sell her. So, knowing this information, a friend calls me with an offer for the next one!
Second rotary: red 1987 RX-7 base model FC3S for $1200 -> Now THIS one was an interesting one. First off, the boys told me that they couldn't keep it running, so I visited to check it out. With all of the modifications that he listed, it was well worth this price, regardless of engine condition. So, when I get there, he gets it started (barely), and shows me that it runs, just not well. Upon inspection, the alternator belt have OVER THREE INCHES of play in it. (Well no frakkin duh, it's not going to charge well to run well!) So I smile, haggle a little, and get it for $2000 cheaper than his asking price on the Craiglist ad he posted. Immediately, I replace the alternator belt, spark plugs, wires, all fuses, etc. VOILA! Car runs mostly fine. Next comes the overheating issue. So, as you can probably guess, it was something STUPID. No hose was left open for the AST to separate air, and it was building too much pressure, so easy fix of closing one place off and cutting a hose. This car came with RX-8 seats, 17" Falkens on Tenzo Type-R wheels (black with red stripe around lip),a short shifter (removing that - was done wrong), a DESTROYED wiring harness (also redoing that soon, though some mild mods have helped already), a brand new Godspeed radiator, new fuel tank and pump, and a K&N intake kit. It already had the A/C, power steering, and air pump deleted. As soon as it arrives, I will be installing the FD alternator I just purchased for a power update before I start adding things that need power.
So, here I am, just a girl and her RX-7(s), looking for information, maybe some parts, and a few friends that won't judge me in the car scene for being a girl. Here's my current baby!

Nice ride. You should bring it out to the local AutoX some time. http://www.ovr-scca.org/_autocross/autocrosshome.asp

You should start reading and learning small things about them! It will save you a lot of time and headache in the future, and you'll realize quickly that they're not as complicated as people think.

I love her SO MUCH! Thanks!
Update: FD alternator is in and functional! Of course, it required some new wiring, but she's purring like a grumpy kitten!

I'm jelly, Gelly. You have two great looking cars over there. I have yet to purchase one of my own yet. But, I think I'm set on the third-generation series 6 because I want to mod my car using a Veilside Fortune kit, and design it exactly like Sung Kang's in Tokyo drift. Girl + car = match made in Heaven.
I can't wait to be lost with my first RX-7.

Well, we're not all rich! I would love an S6, but I have to do what my wallet will allow. ^-^
We're planning to go to Import Alliance this weekend as a household, which includes my best friend's AE86 replica car from Initial D. Maybe I'll see some of you there! (If we get to go - it depends on how my baby is feeling.)

Hey Gelly, I'm Jan. I Just picked up an 84 SE and I live down in NC but I'm originally from Columbus. I miss the place, but can live without the potholes and winter weather. Good luck with the FC. Looking good so far!

Well, now that I've got the idle speed and air controlled properly, we're cleaning all of the grounds to see if we can find the bad ground wire that's causing voltage fluctuation. Oh, this car!

Hi Gelly, I moved to Wisconsin from Canton, OH. Born & raised in Akron. Just joined 30 mins. ago.
Nice '87 GXL. That model was my first RX7 when I lived in Lakewood ('burb of Cleveland, OH).
Never saw any difference in the adjustable shock settings. Always kept it at sport.
