Hi everybody! We are Dave and Becky, we just purchased a 1979 rx-7 limited and love the car but the motor has us thinking this can be either fun or a horror story.... Afraid the elderly gentleman we bought it from was not quite honest with us when he said it just needs a tune up and the backfiring and stuff will go away...so we are here looking for all the help we can get...Thanks Huggs and Kisses Becky

 

"Backfiring and stuff" usually means your exhaust system is toast....luckily for you, the 79 will be exempt from emissions in 49 states, maybe even CA unless they changed the rules again. By "stuff", I'm hoping that doesn't mean a bunch of blue smoke...

thanks for the response and insight we really appreciated it. by other stuff he said it was running extremely rich in actuallity it was not running at all, and oh yeah there was absolutely no oil in the crankcase as the oil cooler lines we broke...hmmmm go figure if that did any damage...LOL and when we did a quasi compression test you can tell the front rotor hasn't got the familiar ch..ch..ch noise happening it has one ch noise then a long pause..but anyways we really appreciate it thanks
