ok look for smoke in the exhaust

white smoke = coolant
black smoke = oil

if its a 86-88 n/a common problems are hesitation past 3800 rpm which is usually caused by dirty aux ports.

what year? na? turbo?

google = bs

rotary engines actually looses compression at a slower rate than piston motors.

as long as the omp lines are in tact, motor doesnt overheat, and the oil is always checked then they last for a very long time.

well...the transmissions themselves are only like 200, but the labor at a garage is going to be a lot... if youre not mechanically inclined, probably shouldnt even attempt it at home. but be sure to REALLY look over the FC though...otherwise it could be a huge headache since the car is old and you dont know what that owner has done to it or how he/she has taken care of it...

does it start? does it hold idle on cold start by itself (no holding the gas pedal, no revving it manually). are there any warning lights on? does the coolant reservoir actually have coolant in it? any smoke? check engine light on?

1300 is a bit too much, get him down to 1000 or lower. i just recently bought mine a month ago for 800 and it runs but has a bit of white smoke.
