The Purpose and Meaning of a "Club"

A little background. From the time I was 16 until I was 18 I drove an 87 TII coupe. I absolutely loved that car and used to drive it sideways even before I had ever heard anything drifting (not sure if it existed in 1993). Anyways the fuel injectors started leaking fuel and eventually caught the engine bay on fire, it burned up all the wiring and who knows what else. We had the car scrapped (sad day).

Every since I always knew I would someday be able to afford another one. So 11 yrs. later I found a 91 low mileage rx7 online and boarded a plane and flew to NJ to pick it up. Long story short, I was under the impression the car was a TII, and it was not. I bought the car anyways, and drove it back home to KY. I saved up some money, sold a buick century that I had and purchased a JDM engine, trans, etc. swap for my car. Determined to make the thing a TII if it breaks me. :o)

I have turned to this forum to assist me in my tasks and battles ahead of me. So far the majority of the people that I have met on here seem to be sincere "club" people. Being that they seem to share the same love and enthusiasm as one would expect from a Vechicle Specific Car Club.

I have also run across a few who seem to make their living off exploiting other club members. I just assumed that the goal of a "club" would be to help one another out, and help keep the common goal alive to keep as many as these cars in one piece and on the road.

I am just wondering what other people's feelings are on this matter, and basically thought I might stir up some thoughts and emotions.

I agee totally that this forum has its share of asses. I was surprised at how everyone treated me in the 3rd gen forum when I first joined. It seems everyone was so quick to say 'take it to a mechanic' without offering any help. 'If you can't afford a rx7 you shouldn't have bought it.' Not the attitude I am used to coming from the dsm world. Even when I tried to post my opinion to help others, for example about which is a better DD, and Eclipse GSX or an FD. I currently own both so I stated my opinion that in Ohio, the GSX in a much better DD. I get called a troll for not saying that an FD is a good DD. It seems on here, all that really matters is your income, and post count.

If you can get over that, there is much info to be learned. For me, RX7 owners are the mopar guys of the import world. We think we are elite and we act like it.

Do your searches, find some answers and then ask intelligent questions. The club will help you. Everything is here from wiring, brake upgrades to engine swaps. All forums have their "know-it-all's" and "do a search" so just don't be like them. We're all car guys or so I like to think.

Having been apart of many car forums over the years, I feel the purpose of a 'club' is to have a community. You won't get along with everyone, and there are always those few bad people. Overall, it's a place to call home. You know you can find the info you'll need and you will get the info you can't find if you ask the right people/questions.

Being a MOPAR guy since the late 60s/early70s and owning a 63 Valiant, 65 Barracuda and a 71 Road Runner, I can understand your statement. Back then we were outcasts compared to the Ford and GM guys, yet deep down, we knew we had the hp they didn't. Thier cars were masked by all of the fancy options in order to sell them. Now, after 30-40 years, look at which muscle cars are bringing in the big bucks.

In 72-73, dealers couldn't give the winged SuperBirds or Daytonas away and they sat on the lot due to the gas shortage. Now mint ones are worth 300-500k.

The ******* ratio looks to be low for this site, just be smart and most people are more than willing to help you out. I have been a member of a few forums where people are just ripped apart for asking simple questions... It sucks that people are such net-hardasses sometimes.
