Proud FD owner for a year so far but new to rotaries
Hello everyone;First things first, this forum has been nothing but help with loads of good info, from the day I decided I wanted to own an RX7 till this day.
Wow, if there is anything you can think of it most likely has already been asked or answered by somebody so I highly encourage all the new owners to searchI am a 32yr old rotary noob and have been into cars since I was like 10, I am an aerospace maintenance mechanic/electrical & environmental systems specialist. I bought my first rotary in summer last year and and have done all work/mods on it myself so far with the help of all the info from this forum and the RX7 manuals, I have learned a lot and still have a long way to go. I was born and raced in Puerto Rico but currently live in northern California. I've been living CONUS
since 2000.I currently own a 1993 FD (Third Gen) RX7 Touring, found it unmolested, 100% stock w/79K miles on it for $12,000 (it still even original the floor mats) everything worked except the stock Bose stereo and the Bose Wave system which have been changed and repaired. I used to be a Honda guy but I was turned to the Dark Side by a friend that owns a highly modded 91' Turbo II RX7.
I Had some overheating issues with my car withing the first few mths (collant coming out of the overflow tank)
it was a nightmare and very frustrating. I upgraded the radiator to a Koyo, change radiator hoses to silicone ones, new thermostat, spark plug wires among other regular maintenance things just to make it healthy. It was diagnosed with a coolant seal leak at the front rotor a few mths ago. It is going to the shop for a rebuild next week and will come out with 3mm seals, street ported, vacuum hose job, fan mod, downpipe, ACT clutch kit and Prolite flywheel; everything else stays stock for now.
Question:
Can anyone give me a wild guesstimate on how much HP I should come out with after these mods.
BTW this was my very first thread.. Yesss!!!
