Hey guys! Glad to be apart of this awesome rotary community finally! I just recently bought my first rx7, it's currently in the shop getting a rebuild and small street port. I've read alot here and there and seen a bunch of videos, but I would love to get some pro tips on how to make sure I won't need another rebuild anytime soon, and what kinda reliability mods I can do to help. Welcome!! What year is your 7? As far as reliability mods go, the car in its original form is very reliable if properly maintained. You can always install a nicer aluminum radiator and electric fan and things if that nature. But to be honest, if the car is just going to be a driver and not see the track, it will be fine as is.

It's a 1986 😁 I plan to daily it, I would like to have some fun with it eventually. I want to eventually make around 250 ponies so I can play around with some of my friends in their boosted cars. Tbh I haven't even driven it yet and I got it march 31st, I've just been saving up for the rebuild and port, I expect to have it back from the shop in 2 weeks or so. Super stoaked about that. But of course I have all sorts of people telling me how unreliable it's going to be which scares me a little. Haha. I guess I'll find out soon enough right! Haha.
These cars are extremely reliable if they are maintained properly. You also have to remember the car is more than 30 years old now and there will be things that need attention. Seals dry out, bushing shrink and crack, things rust together, contacts get corroded, and things will wear out. You will have to plan for things like that and don't get discouraged when something fails. The best plan of attack is to catch it and replace it before it fails. Go through the car and if something appears to need attention, don't wait, address the issue right then and there.
Trust me you're gonna want to undercoat everything and not drive it in the elements if its really clean. IDK if Oregon uses salt on the roads but I personally wouldn't drive a 7 in the winter. They hate starting up when its cold too. Mine was dumb clean underneath with only dots of surface rust and then I daily-ed it for 8 months and the rust grew very quick in the ares that weren't undercoated. Get some quality undercoat (I like the 3M spray paint stuff) and hit the areas previously mentioned (at least). Don't jack up on your pinch welds, use the subframes & mounts (wood between jack and subframe). Don't get carried away like I did and now year 2 of the car sitting lol.

points taken👌 my buddy who had it before me said it used to hate cold start ups untill he put the yellowtop battery in it. It's always been garage kept so I haven't found any rust yet tbh. It's forsure the cleanest fc out off all the ones I've seen, I'm lucky to own it.

From a person who had a car that was in your position. I'd really recommend undercoat to keep it all clean. Dive into Aaroncake.net. Enjoy it but make sure your not being oblivious to any little issue.
