Noob here - Racing a rotary

Hey everyone:

New to endurance racing rotaries in Lemons and Lucky Dog, so will be learning plenty from this site. We bought a LeMons capable FC vert in Michigan and drove it back to Seattle in Oct., then raced it 14 hours. Great little car, but we need something better for Lucky Dog. So, a engine-building we will go.

I'll come back with pics and updates from time to time. Thanks in advance for all the help.

Dave

Oh, also started hoarding parts already. Picked up two loads of engine bits from other hoarders getting out of it, so I'll be posting ads when I'm ready. Thanks.

Cool stuff!

Lucky Dog puts on a great event. I've got one race under my belt, it was my first wheel-to-wheel race and it was both terrifying and crazy fun. I was intrigued to see a couple rotaries there (an FB and an FC), sounded like one of them was running on one rotor by the end of the event but just kept truckin'.

Keep us posted on your race-prep progress, I'd love to see what you end up with!

Hey XanderCage:

Where was your one race? We ran in Portland last Oct. for our first and only race. Crazy fun for sure, enough to confirm we want more. We were the only RX7 running and definitely the only rotary, so guessing you were at a different race than that. But you're right, silly little underpowered thing just get going and going. Finished 17 of 40 on the Sunday race due to nothing more than reliability.

I suppose that I'll need to get going on a build thread as we get started. Thanks for the support.

Hi Dave, gosh it was back in 2017 (early fall I think?) at the Ridge. We were in this beauty:

We were unfortunately a DNF that race due to an overheat that warped our head.

I believe the team was there for your race in Portland, our captain and car owner doesn't miss out on many races unless something is catastrophically broken. I don't go too often simply due to cost, but I hope to join in the fun at least once this summer!
