New to the board, in San Antonio. I've got a few questions for the gurus, but background first. Almost 20 years ago, I had a 1985 GSL-SE, and I am thinking of another. In between I've had MGs, Talons, and Celica and learned a few things that lead me to some questions:
First, what is considered the most desirable model of the 1st and 2nd generations and why?
Next, how supportable are either of them for restoration parts? Right now I have a 1985 Celica GT-S "hobby" that is damned near impossible to find any kind of restoration parts for.
Finally, what are the best sources for the parts?
Thanks! Jim

Hey, welcome.
Not sure about 1st gens, but for 2nd gen RX7's (fc3s), that is debated. The S5 has nicer body(side skirts, nicer front bumper, nice tail lights, paint matched molding etc). The S5s also have more power stock and slight changes to the interior that many prefer. The s4 does have a mechanical OMP(oil metering pump) that is agreed to be more reliable than the electric one in the S5's. Really, both are great so it comes down to preferance. I have owned both and prefer S5. You can check the FAQs in the Second Gen forum.
As for parts, I used to own an 87 Celica GT. They've pretty much dropped off the face of the earth both the car and parts-wise. Compared to that, FC's are a plenty. The majority of FC's made were sold in the US and I've never had a problem finding used parts. Naturally newer engines are harder to find as dealerships as far as I know don't have new engines for sale. As far as "consumables" like brakes, engine seals, exhausts, suspension etc there are many sources for like oem or upgraded parts. It's going to depend on what you need as far as where you should go. Racing beat, corksport and mazdatrix come to mind.
