New to the sight and RX7's

Whats up guys, new here, but not to cars.

I just bought my first RX7 today
1983 RX7 with 135K on it

The story goes....
I had me 1991 300ZX TT i was working on all last year and part the year before that. I was almost done, moved to AZ from NH then my G/F came off her military orders adn i was in between jobs. So i had to sell it

So i bought a expedition, and my G/F has the STI. But i needed a car to tinker with and work on and at least have something to work on to keep me happy. So i stombled across this.

Its gonna take some work and probably some time since i am not in the best shape financially.

But since i am new to this, was wondering what yoiu folks recomend.

My buddy Mike is a RX7 Guy so i will probably working with him on ideas a lot but all imput helps. Wanna meet some 1st gen guys that know their stuff.

Any one in or around PHX let me know

For good measure here is my Z in the shape it was when i sold it.

Also is there a Vendor list with their websights on it. I am having trouble finding good sorces for parts for the first gen.

I looked in vendor section but its group buys and vendor classifieds. I am looking for a list of good sights to order from.

Please let me know along with recomendations.

I want to play around with the 12a motor to get familiar with the engine, then swap a 13b in. But right now i am just looking for suspension, and suporting mods for a swap. And some interior stuff. Some of the switched dont work, and the center console is cracked and loose. I would rather get replacement than have to build a interior. I prefur the not flashy close to stock look. As you can see from the Z.

Thanks for the comments, i miss the Z a lot.

I will probably get another one down the road, but right now i am gonna see what i cant do with the 1st Gen.

Its gonna take a while i dont have the money i had with the Z but I am hoping to get it to a respectable point.

Yeah, i bought mine for 12,500 and i put about 7K in parts into it. But then got in a tough spot and sold it for 9,500.

I wish i hadnt but oh well i paid the bills and now me my G/F and the 2 year old are doing ok financially. Lets just hope neither of us loose our jobs due to the economy.

The Z only had 59K on it when i sold it would have been worth a lot if i had finished it off and kept it.

Taking the car apart would have been worse than selling it. I sold it to a twinturbo.net member who had another Z and had been on the forum for about 10 years. So it went to a Z inthusiest (sorry for my spelling) so at least it is a good home for it.

I will get another Z. My goal for my life time is to build a Z32 compleatly, a #rd gen RX7, a Supra and a R34

Then i can die happy. But the first gen i got is my entry into rotarys. Right now i only know them from a non hands on stand point. So basically i dont know **** lol.

Once you figure out all the quirks, they are relatively easy to work on.

Yeah, i figure with the 12a motor i can play wround with it while i am doing suspension and fixing interior and the little stuff on exterior, then once i tinker enought to be somewhat familiar i will get a 13b turbo and swap it in. My buddy mike form tuning alliance has built a few of them. He curently has a 91 Turbo he is building up. But my end goal is to get some good suspension, get the interior back to a almost stock look change out the seats for something a little more comfortable, then just do a basic motor/tranny swap and i wanna get 250-350 WHP. I figure it is going to take a few years. But in the end i tihnk i can get it. That whole list of stuff is my un educated #'s and ideas. I need to figure out a lot more to determine if that realistic or how much work will be involved. I dont know what i need to do for the swap if Drive shaft will fit what tranny i need or the actual motor i want but i know in the end i would like to have the car at or under 2300 LBS with around 300 WHP and i want it to look stock cept some wider tires and good brakes.

So my starting point is Suspension and brakes, and i am going to do little mods and clean up the stock motor to get a idea of how it all is put together.

I'm in AZ there are many of us, and you have an AMAZING rotary engine builder very nearby, go join AZRX7.com as well, and enjoy her.

CA Too bad about the z...

I bet the Z was a blast to drive, but the 13b conversion should be awesome!
