New to RX7's
Hey all! New to the RX7 scene! Actually a previous 240SX owner, but after wrecking that and forced to drive an automatic, FWD, monster I am desperately looking to get back into a manual, RWD car again!
Thought about going back to 240's, but I was always angry at the total lack of power in the stock car, and after looking around at different options found the RX7 and found it to be amazing! Have never actually driven one, but the whole idea of a rotary engine, the look of the car, and the feedback I am getting about performance is intriguing!
So now I am looking to get into an RX7 as soon as possible, and hopefully really start delving into the rotary and RX7 world as much as I can!

They are out there. I got my 84, with 8K miles on a full rebuilt motor, but rough body, for $160. .. I consider it quite a find. Now I can make it mine!! lol
Keep an eye out... Now is a buyers market!

I had a friend with a 240SX, the first time I drove it with him in I flew at a 90 degree corner, and he gets a litttle hysterical saying theres a sharp right coming up. I ask him if he means here and put my foot down some more, and he tried to climb into the back seat.
I would give the SX the edge on power, but the RX out handles them everytime for me. I find the SX less responsive and a little tail heavy.

Totally agree with you Gypsy! Unresponsive and tail heavy describes the 240 perfectly!
Anywho, I think I have found a car guys! so excited going to look at it Sunday. It's a '91 Non-Turbo, although someone went and slapped a Turbo hood on it. Has all power windows, and such, exterior looks to be in good condition, and they're only asking 1000obo! They said they put in an engine with 60,000 miles on it after the old one lost compression, but can't seem to get the new one going. I'm hoping I can, or some friends can!
Anything I need to watch out for guys on this self install job? Anyway i can tell if they put a bad engine in?

Seems to be a ton of the FCs on Craigslist, very few FDs though sadly. The only two I've seen recently were auto and the one I looked at was in horrible condition and they still wanted a lot for it of course!

Drako11, just re read your original post. If you were disapointed with the top end of the SX you may find yourself in the same position with an N/A RX; the SX I was using was the standard turbo which I think was faster than the RX. Don't get me wrong, the willingness of the engine and the beautiful handling elevate it above this car, but the top end is nothing to rave about. If you go up against almost any quick car in a straight line drag you'll probably lose. Its in the twisties you'll win and in the tuning POTENTIAL that you have the upper hand. I hope the car you see is up to the mark. My 1st converted me enough for me to say that the first time I get over 60k+ to spend on a car it won't be on a Porsche, Lambo or Ferrari.

Well unfortunately the car turned out to be a let down. : /
The lady that I talked to about the car didn't really know as much as she thought she did. Her husband was there and he gave me the real deal.
Turns out the engine they put in wasn't getting any compression in one of the cylinders, so it will need a re-build or new engine. Also one of the windows in the car fell out, and the car was filled with birds nests, mud daubers, and the carpet was molding. The front passenger fender, and hood will most likely need replaced. Over all the car was very solid and would be a great project for someone, but to much for me to handle at the time seeing that I'm just going into college.
If anyone lives close to Lawrenceburg, TN though, I believe she still has the car, and I have her number. Oh talked her down to $800 on the car as well.
