Welcome to the club. The Second Gen FAQ is an excellent starting point for most new owners. And if your issue isn't in there, New Member Tech is a good way to get your feet wet without a bunch of flaming "omg search n00b" silliness. One thing I noticed from your picture is that your car appears to have been repainted in Crystal White (paint code UC) at some point. The only S4's that received Crystal White from the factory are 10th Anniversary Editions (10AE for short).
Also, the side marker lights on yours were exclusive to Europe too. Now you got me wondering if yours is a European S4T2, they have a few differences from the North American or Japanese models.
hi, thank you.
Yes it's an european car, i'm from the french speaking part of switzerland. (sorry if my english is weird sometimes haha)
And yes the last owner repainted it in Crystal White. I think it was grey before.
The forum alredy helped me a lot. The car had nearly all the common oils leaks.
But now i'm kinda stuck because it overheats. Rust seems to have clogged all the coolant passage inside the block. and i dont know how to remove it.... (And i dont want to rebuild it becaus it has good compression)
I will post somthing in the New member tech tomarow.
Welcome to the forum! The car looks like a great starting point for a restoration! Why do you suspect rust is clogging the coolant passages? Have you used a cooling system pressure tester to see if the system will hold cap pressure? You could be seeing coolant seal failure near the exhaust ports and the weakened seal could be heating the coolant up. Worst case scenario. Best case is a good cooling system flush and you're back in business with clean FL22 coolant.
The last owner have nearly not used the car in 10 years. And have not changed the coolant either.
The radiator was fully clogged with rust.
Lots of rust and big chunks came out from the engine block. The water pump is working correctly, the filler cap is new and holds pressure right but it still overheats.
That's why i was thinking of clogged coolant passages but maybe it's not.
I'm still not familiar with the rotary engine but coolant seal failure would do symptoms symilar to a blown head gasket ?
White smoke, air bubles in coolant and more, but i dont have these symptoms. The car starts great and the sparkplugs are not wet.
I will search more for common overheating problems on the forum and maybe i will find somthing.
