New rx-7 owner Yolo county CA
Hi all. My name is JJ. I have just about finished the pruchase of an '80 SA. The car has been sitting for about 6 years since it failed smog as a gross poluter. My freind bought this car off of someone thinking he would be able to flip it for a profit. Well it never worked out. So a couple months ago I was wathcing TV, a show called Drive and saw the episode featuring the "No F#*!'s" rx-7. I for some reason became pretty interest in this idea of a mustang powered rx-7 and new where there was one sitting in a field under a tree rotting away that i figured I could get cheap. So I called a friend after finding Granny's Speed shop on-line relizing this was a practical idea. The carb was in pieces, cat was cut off the exhaust and after blowing all the leaves off the cowel and rusty hole. We managed to get the carb together and get it running off of starting fluid (want to make sure it runs to gain some $ to the V8) and negotiated what seems to be a good deal that includes what I believe is a spare GSL rear axle sitting in a shed.
So here I am an owner of an RX-7 and never ever have driving one in my life.
I am not sure how far I want to go with the car. I have had insperation to doing laps around Thunder Hill and Laguna Seca for over decade now, but with nothing worth smashing around the track. Unitl now. It will be most likley a couple of years but my determination to run some laps at Thunder Hill will get me there! Sorry it wont be with the rotary however. Thanks.

I got the 7 towed to the house today. Family helped me give her a bath for the first time since 2009. The car changed about 10 shades of red. The paint is pretty faided as I would expect. Maybe some wax and polishing might brighten it up a little. There are a lot more dents and bends than orignaly thought. In the glove box found the owners manual to my surprise, its in good shape at least. Where is a good place to find out what model I have? How many different models are there in '80?
