New owner of a Spark Yellow SA

I just brought home a 79 GS this weekend. This is my second rotary, as I have an '04 RX8. I've been talking about getting a first gen RX7 for years and now I can finally say I have one to tinker with. It's in good shape with just a couple little issues to take care of, but what 40 year old car doesn't need a little attention. The biggest issue it has right now is a slowly leaking carb, which I am assuming is a dirty seat or stuck float. It's slow enough that it doesn't really effect how it runs, but if I let it sit with just the key on, it will slowly flood. Guess that's my first project.

Welcome and congrats! Would love to see some more pictures, including the interior and under hood. Looks in above average condition. Has it been re painted? You can register the VIN in the 1st gen register.

Welcome!! Would love to see more pictures of the car! Do you know any of the car's history? Odd to see no body side moldings on a GS.

I'll try to grab some more pictures tomorrow. As far as being a GS, I'm guessing that's what it is due to having a 5-speed and a rear swaybar. Is there another indicator?

On another note, my floats seem to be happy again. I did some tapping and let the bowls run dry a couple times and now have no more flooding (knock wood).

Sunroof was an option on the GS.

If it has the 5spd trans and the rear sway bar, it's a GS for sure. A 4 spoke steering wheel, windshield sunshade, and center console are some other identifiers. The aluminum wheels were a $650 option. The body side moldings were also optional but installed on most GS trim levels. Was your car repainted? It's possible that it was and the moldings were removed and never reinstalled or that the original owner did not order the car with them.

There is no evidence of a repaint. There is definitely evidence of sun fade though. I put the metal sunroof in and it's a shade darker than the surrounding roof panel. The old girl could use a good polishing. It does have a 4 spoke wheel and center console. No windshield shade though. It also came with a sunroof windblocker and both glass and solid sunroof panels, with storage envelope.

The windshield sunshade is a greenish band of tint imbedded in the glass at the top of the windshield. Very few spark yellow cars seem to have came with sunroofs for some odd reason. Only the metal roof was factory. It also included the snap in air deflector and stowage bag.Glass sunroofs for SA's are aftermarket.
