Talking Potential New RX7 Owner

I have owned an 84 GSL in the past, but got rid of it for more room. That was about 10 years ago.

Fast forward to today. I am now looking at getting an 85 GS (maybe tomorrow). This will the be the 9th Mazda for the wife and me. I am currently on my 3rd Miata (had a green 99, a mariner blue 91 and now enjoying a supercharged 2004) and getting the RX7 as a daily driver.

It needs a little work, and is just a little loud. Previous owner installed an RB Road Race header, mid pipe and a fart can. Current owner has removed fart can and installed a dynomax turbo muffler. Also needs a bit of carb work. Removing all emissions stuff first (potential vacuum leak causing severely high idle) then tackling carb.

I own a website called www.roadster-chat.com that is completely and totally off-topic. It's a forum for roadster fans but rarely is there any car talk. I'm also webmaster for the local Miata club ( www.ragsclub.com ) and also run the forum for the annual Miatas at Deal's Gap gathering ( http://wizco.net/gapboard ). This coming July will be our 13th annual gathering and we're moving from Tapoco Lodge to Fontana Village. We have had better than 500 cars each of the last 3 years so hopefully this year will be even better now that we have more room.

Forum appears to be fantastic resource and look forward to getting to know some of you in the future. Matter of fact, I met 3 guys up at the Gap today (I live about 35 miles away) who were from South Florida and heading home. I apologize, but I don't remember names, but the cars were a turbo'd white GSL-SE and a silver RX-8. Met them at Tabcat Bridge down by the lake.

Well, we went and picked up the car this evening and it is now in the garage.

Has some pretty good little carb problems. Going to attempt to remove the rats nest first and see if it was vacuum leaks. Going to check the intake gasket and carb gaskets as well while in the process.

Also has an in/out slide with the steering wheel. I tried to post in the correct forum, but don't have enough posts to do that just yet. Anyone know which way you have to remove the steering column to replace the nylon screw? Does the column have to come out the top or the bottom? Do you have to pull the steering box with it?
