New Member/Old Enthusiast of 1984 RX-7 GSL
I just joined the forum today. I purchased my Dover White RX-7 with a red leather interior new in '84 when I lived in Texas and have many enjoyable memories from my youth with the car. Over the car's lifetime, I've made a few modifications to the car including headers, a heavy-duty suspension, 15-inch wheels and tires, and a 240 HP RR&R normally aspirated street ported 12A engine and Mikuni carburetor. The car has been garaged all its life and other than one snowstorm driving home to MA, it hasn't seen any salt. It has been sitting for 25 years since I started it and I know the gas turned and clogged all the fuel lines. I've recently become excited to get it back on the road and re-live my youth, so I rolled the car out of the garage in the middle of the night and took a few photos to apply for NJ's Historic plates - see attached photos. I'm hoping to get connected with some local RX-7 enthusiasts who can cheer me on and offer some advice along the way. Thanks for reading and listening!

Yes, the car came with the Targa band installed at the dealership. It's an interesting story about how I came to own the car. I was 24 years old and had just moved to Dallas on my own for the first time. A woman I worked with asked me if I'd give her a ride after work one day to the dealership - she was picking up her new bright red '84 GSL-SE. I had never heard of an RX-7 and certainly had no interest in getting a new car that day. She asked me to wait around in the showroom to make sure everything was in order before leaving her. Prominently displayed in front of the showroom just outside the building was this white RX-7 GSL with the Targa band and a front black bra with its sunroof off, windows down and radio blasting vying for the attention of all the customers. I was looking at the car when a salesman approaches me and says how good I'd look driving down the road in that car. The next thing I knew I had relinquished my car keys and was subjected to my first experience of high-pressure car sales. I remember finally signing the paperwork 30 minutes after closing so I could finally get out of the dealership and thinking there's no way I'll get approved for the car loan. The car MSRP was $15,800 with all the extras and there was a markup because these cars were so "rare" totaling a whopping $18,000 even. Much to my dismay, a few days later, I got approved and had to borrow $2,000 from a girlfriend for the down payment and the rest of the story is, as they say, history.
Thanks everyone for the introductions.

That's an amazing story! I always love hearing how these cars were purchased new. Every car has a different story and each is fun and unique. I've owned a few RX-7's that I've purchased from the original owner and each story was different and fun! Do you have the original window sticker for the car still?

Welcome to the forums. Always good to hear from original owners. You may want to drain the tank and put in some fresh gas w/some seafoam additive. Then remove the the feed line from the carb and pump out the lines into a container. Replace the fuel filter too. At the worst, the carb might need rebuilt as well.
This is a great source of knowledge and info for these cars. You'll learn things you never knew while getting your old gal back on the road. Yes, always fun to see more detailed photos.
