New member from LA SOCAL FD :D

Hello my fellow rotary enthusiast
So quick intro of myself. My name is Imran(Emron) but many call me Jaanu (John-oo). I am 18 and located in Los Angeles CA. I recently purchased a 93 Mazda RX-7 for 4k This is my first rotary but not first vehicle. The FD is an automatic and is a salvaged title I plan on swapping the motor and tranny with the help of a friend. I'm honestly not a mechanic or a pro, but instead I'm a complete noob but very motivated to learn . I'm excited to start on the car and honored to have joined the community and learn from all the knowledge that you all have to share.
Thanks for your time and checking out my post

Welcome, Jaanu!

Congrats on the purchase. Sounds like a good project. Are you keeping it rotary?

Yes sir keeping it a 13b-rew. From my understanding I have to swap my the motor for the conversion because the bell housing will not match correctly ? Also the motor I currently have is burning oil (smoke show) so it was cheaper for me to just swap the motor ($800 for motor and tranny).

^Oops I actually misinterpreted the concept behind the bell housing on the motor. I still bought the other motor and tranny only because the guy who sold it to me is helping me with resurrecting the car

Anyone know where I can get some parts local for cheap? I cannot view the classifieds as my posts are not sufficient. Or do you know anyone parting out their fd. In need of driveshaft, pedal box assembly, shift boot (inner&outer). Thanks in advance

CA

Been a while since I've logged on.
Update on the project, so about 4 months ago I finally gathered everything I needed to convert the car from automatic to manual. My friend and I pulled the motor and tranny out of the chassis. I noticed the motor that I had was not in the best shape; it had a couple of worn hoses and misc so I decided to do an overhaul on the motor. I realized I needed much more money to complete the project so I decided to take a semester off of school and work more. After one month I had saved enough money to buy new gaskets, front/rear main seals, oil injector lines (MazdaTrix is nice but expensive), vacuum lines for the sequential turbo set-up (BIG PAIN IN THE ***!!) and all the other good stuff that I noticed I should replace. I started replacing parts and worked my *** off. As each day passed, I felt I was closer to the happiest day of my life. About a month ago we finally had the motor prepped and ready to be dropped in the chassis. Instead of dropping the motor in that same week, we had decided it would be better to wait so I can have enough money to pay for tags and insurance in order to celebrate properly (Topanga canyon run ) once it was done. Thank Lord we waited to drop the motor in because in the same week I found a beautiful 93 FD R1 for sale. I contacted the seller and he turned out to be an awesome person, I told him about my project and he kindly invited me to come check out his car. Once I got there, my jaw dropped to the floor, she was the most beautiful FD I had ever laid my eyes on. I met with the seller, we talked for a bit and I just couldn't stop drooling over the car. I told him I couldn't purchase the car as I didn't have the money but if he would still have his car after I was done with building mine, I would sell mine along with my motorcycles and my BMW 530i e39 in order to buy his FD. He made me a better offer, give him my motorcycles and my BMW and I could drive his FD home. Tears of joy rolled down my cheeks, I gladly accepted and we made plans to meet at my house. I reached home and immediately began to clean my e39 and then I put my newly refinished BBS M-Parallels with new run flat tires on the e39. The FD seller meets me in my parents house and brings a binder filled with maintenance records and receipts along with the pink. Signs the pink and hands it over to me, I sign the pink for the BMW and hand it to him. I ran home to find the pink for the motorcycles but no luck, I came out and told him that I couldn't find the pinkslips but I could sign a Bill of Sale. Instead, he said to drop off the bike to his house and we could figure out the paperwork another time. We park the FD at my house, he drives the BMW and I ride the motorcycle to his house. We begin the journey to his house, I hop on the freeway and two miles later, the bike begins to die... I check the trip meter and realized I'm out of gas... I exit immediately and roll the bike to a safe location to park it in order to get some gas. I inform the seller that the bike ran out of gas, he agrees to take me back to my place so we can pick up a gas canister (word check?). We reach to my house and with my shitty luck I couldn't find a canister so instead I decided to use a small soda bottle. The seller gave me a ride to the nearest gas station. I filled the bottle with gas, a total of $1.37 and then we went back to the bike. I poured the gas in the bike but it still didn't start so I leaned the bike to one side and then tried, she started right up! I rode the bike to the gas station and filled it up. At 2:30 AM and in the freezing cold, I was once again on the way to his house . We arrived to his place, I dropped the bike off and hopped in the e39. He gave me a ride back to my house, and once I got home I ran straight to the back to stare at my new FD. An hour later I go home and inform my mother about the trade, she didn't like the fact that I traded all of my running vehicles for one car. I brought the car out to the front to show her and she didn't like how loud it was -_- So anyways I was the happiest person in the world. I contacted Jeff at Rotary Power USA to show him the car and as soon as I reach to his place he came out and asked me why I keep buying cars with bad motors; At first I thought he was kidding but then he told me that the car had a chipped apex seal, my heart dropped... Jeff continues to check out the car, he tries to make things better and tells me that its a true R1 and that it's in great shape (besides the motor). Two days after Jeff told me about the chipped apex seal, the motor blows and I become depressed... I began to search for another motor nearby for sale but had no luck finding a reasonably priced motor... A couple of days later I realized that I still had another FD (DUHHHHH!!!) I put the shell up for sale on craigslist and a day later the shell sold ($3750)! I kept the motor and asked my Mastertech friend to help me have a running car asap! He said he would charge for a motor swap but would have it done in 2 days, I bit the bullet and agreed! He got to work immediately and two days later, the car was pretty much ready for the motor to be dropped in but he couldn't do it as he had an emergency to take care of. So the car was supposed to be ready on 10/22/2013 but instead I will be getting the car back on 10/27/2013. I am still grateful for what I am blessed with and patience is a virtue.. Can't wait to get my car back Anyways I still have all the parts I gathered over the year to convert the car from auto to manual, parts including : drive shaft, powerplant support beam, manual transmission, new clutch slave cylinder, new clutch master cylinder, usdm clutch pedal, usdm brake pedal, new lightweight racing flywheel, clutch, counterweight, fluidyne aluminum racing radiator, shift boot, and other good stuff for sale! I would love to sell everything as a package deal and help someone out!
