IN New Member Happy to be here

Hello everyone, my name is Corey, I am 26 years old and a police officer in Evansville Indiana. I have been very much involved in the honda scene in both the NA and boosted aspects for around the last 10 years. I have built numerous cars most for my own pleasure and some for other people. I got tired of the honda scene and all the drama that started coming with it about a year ago and decided to test my knowledge on something else. A year ago I purchased a 2002 z06 and it opened my eyes to the possibilities of other cars out there. I have always loved the looks of the FD rx7's but never really saw myself owning one. Two months ago I ran into someone who had one sitting for the last 8 years. I did not think much of it but went and checked it out this last Wednesday after I got off of my shift. The car was in amazing shape. I asked what I would have to write a check for to get it out of the space in their garage where it had been RIP for the last 8 years. The price the guy told me I about crapped my pants and was shaking writing the check. So here I am now, reading reading reading, learning a little but anxious to learn a lot and get this car back on the road/track. I have already drained the fuel but any other advise for attempting to start something after sitting for this long would be greatly appreciated. I do not want to chance the apex seals being seized and screwing more stuff up. The older gentleman I bought it from stated that the car overheated a small amount once on the way home he parked it and bought a 911 the next day. (wealthy)

My current stable consists of
fully built gt35r DC Integra
2002 Red z06 IHE
2002 BB s2000 track ready
07 Triumph 675
1963 ss Impala---my first project

and...93 rx7 r1

Any advice or suggestions on websites to check out are greatly appreciated. Hope to get to know some of you all like I used to know the honda guys.

Corey

Welcome aboard, Corey and congratulations on the "barnyard" find! I'll let the 3rdgen guru's tackle your starting question but I myself was able to crank up a 12A engine in a 1983 RX-7 in 2002 that had been sitting since 1994 with not much more than dash of Seafoam down the carb followed by a tiny bit of ATF and then Gumout Carb Cleaner to get it cranked. That engine is nearing the 200k mark today with no problems except for the infamous dowel pin oil leak.

You sure you're not this guy?

I keed, I keed. Love the stable you've got there. Especially the Z06. What's the story with the blue Nova in the foreground? How many miles on the RX?

Haha, you are the second person who has messed with me about that. The blue nova is actually my Dad's car. He has had it since 1969 and always been an on going project. It is a pro-street car that is immaculate and has never even seen the track ever in its life.

The rx has 111,000 miles. I changed the oil, cleaned the plugs up and added new fuel. It turns over fine but I cannot get it to fire up. Got a couple of sounds out of it after spraying a little starting fluid into the intake tube. Fuel pump is working for sure. I pulled the plugs multiple times and everytime they are wet but do not smell like fuel. My coolant level has not changed at all that I can tell. Any ideas??

I got bored last night and since I was not able to get the car to start with some simple fixes I began detailing it. Amazing what a couple of hours a porter cable and some good product will do.
