This is my first time posting on his forum so I would like to introduce myself. My name is Jason and I am from Toronto, Canada. My car is currently a RHD 1992 Mazda RX-7 FD3S R1 in original CYM. I purchased it last August as a non runner and plan to get it running by summer of 2017. Engine was bone stock at the time of purchase with a very low compression that was below 70.
My current modifications so far:
- Mazdaspeed MS-01 Wheels
- Knight Sports wing
- JDM Side Skirts
- HKS Boost Gauge / RE Amemiya gauge pod
- Blitz BOV
- HKS Coilovers (Blown )
- Mazdaspeed Cluster
Current Parts that are uninstalled:
- RE Amemiya AST
- Rotary Works V-Mount Kit
- Apexi Power FC
I look forward to talking to all you guys on the forums and to get some great advice to help make my journey easier along the way during the few months I am building my car.
I still am perplexed at the people that buy them cars that allow the Passenger to Drive..lol!
Then again it is funny when you drive by someone and have your dog in the front seat!
Welcome to the Forum.
Pm me if you want someone near you to rebuild your engine..I know a guy...or 2..
Wow! Great project car. Has it been in Canada long? Original CYM is certainly rare. Have you searched the VIN number to get original date of manufacture? PM me with the VIN if you'd like me to search for you.
I have seen from searches on RX7Club that some very early production Version 1 cars came to Canada in the past. Talking about cars in the first 100 made, produced in late 1991 (i.e. FD3S 100050). I wonder if yours is one of them.
In B.C. your car would likely qualify for collector car status if kept essentially stock (25 years old). Maybe Ontario is the same. Have you considered that?

I am the third since the car has been in Canada. I have searched the VIN and said it was manufactured on November 20, 1992. But I also found out that my car had received an auction grade of R before it landed here since it had been in a fender bender on the driver's side of the car. I'm not even sure what my actual mileage is because the original cluster was swapped out in favor of a later 94+ model. If you can find more information about the car, I will PM you the VIN very shortly.
I would love my car to qualify as collectors status but it will not be stock by the time it is finished. Sad to say that I don't qualify for collectors status since I am only 20 years old.
Check the inside door frame. Shops in Japan sometimes note the last oil change there. So you might see the mileage at the last oil change in Japan. (I am parting a 92 and found exactly that.) If you have the export score sheet, it will have the mileage on there too. Send me a pick and I can translate the Japanese for you.
