New Here - 88' Convertible - Bay Area
Hey Everybody,
I picked up a 1988 RX-7 Convertible last Saturday and I'm quite excited to participate in the community and learn!. I'm turning this into a full project of restoration and reliability then some power down the line. She's red and pretty clean for her age but high mileage 182k doesn't blow any smoke but has some loud pulleys and questionable belts and a small part that has some oil leaking (posting pictures) .
She definitely needs some love but I'm excited to have a FC vert and want to fix her up proper. It came lowered on white adjustable shocks with red springs and a corksport exhaust other than those it's stock. is that a good exhaust? a little loud but sounds pretty good.
I'm missing the headliner for the convertible top and the original floor liner has been replaced. i have a 3 inch horizontal tear/cut in the lower right side of the vinyl top. The left vent in the dash is missing two fins and the dash may have been removed as it is not fully tucked into the speedo/console area. In the attached photos it's missing the shroud around the clock, it was cracked but I have all the pieces ready for cleaning and super glue. The convertible top does not work but I think it's electrical as neither does the antenna nor the lights next to the clock except for the low battery and seat belts. No beep from convertible switch, no clicking or any sounds. Had the windows down, car on and parking brake set.
Oil is clean and coolant is clean, I'm thinking going over the vacuum lines (Haynes manual is on the way) changing spark plugs and fuses and attempting smog. I haven't decided if I will be attempting a rebuild myself or paying a shop. If anyone has recommendations in the bay area (I'm in santa cruz) I'd love to hear. So far I'm leaning towards contacting Rick's Rotary in Pleasanton.
Here are some pictures and I will be doing an exterior detail this weekend and will post more shots as go. Again I'm looking forward to the community and any help, advice, tips, comments or constructive criticism!

The upload a picture feature wasn't working for me so I attached an Imgur album. https://imgur.com/gallery/GUb2oro
