GA NEw guy to these forums

hello all,

my name is zach. i am a computer network engineer by trade but i have always been a gear head. i currently own:

2004 STI methanol injected tuned by top speed

88 fc rx7

i had the fc 2 weeks was running fine. was pulling into a parking spot, car dies wont start. tow it home and it will only start if i hold maf flap wide open and with a small amount of starting fluid assist, if i let maf flap close.. its dies.. ideas? also not my first rx7 i had a 12A RA for a bit.

so does this make me a official rotary owner? lol

Make a thread in the New Member Tech section. It could be a number of things. My guess would be that sensor has gone bad.

Welcome. As far as the starting goes. I believe that the S4 starting circuit requires the MAF to signal power to the fuel pump. If the MAF is bad or has a "dead spot" it will not trigger the fuel pump. This is all off my head as I haven't worked on a S4 for a while. Will it start with just slightly opening the MAF and no starting fluid?

Check out the OGTA thread in the SE section. Lots of really knowledgable people and friendly meet every month. I come from NC so you should hit it up some time.

Sounds like a MAF. Someone at the meet may have one to loan you to test out. I am fighting a intermittent MAF on our S5 currently I think. Good luck and maybe see you at a meet
