GA new guy on the block

Hey guys, My name is Steve.
I just signed up on here after looking at a fc I've been eye balling for 2 months. Its a 87' shell (orange/gold) with redish interior. The body is very clean so its a great start. I've been looking at a few other fc's but one in specific to swap the motor set, interior and then part the rest out. I know exactly how I want the car to look like (body/paint/suspension/wheels.

I plan on getting the shell painted first so things Im not going to use will be up for sale to you guys. Im totally clueless about fc's but Ive had a <3 for them for quite some time and I want to get my hands dirty. Ive been tinkering with s-chassis for over 12 years so Im not clueless to working on cars. I have a few pics of the shell Im picking up but Id rather wait to post up some pics untill its parked at my house (once its actually mine)

Well, I just wanted to say hello and I look forward to posting up on here!

Thanks

Just curious why the swap from the S chassis to the FC? What exactly are your plans for an fc ( I promise I am not going to still them!)? I know how you feel though, I am very much so looking forward to getting my own FD and painting it white and sitting it on some BBS wheels....It's my been my dream since I was 10 lol!

Well for as long as Ive had s chassis, Ive loved the fc's and its been a very long time too! I never really understood the Apex system, and honestly I was knee deep in doing the s chassis so I never looked into the fc's. Now that Ive done all I can do with s chassis I now can enjoy something completely diferent.

Basically I love projects. I could buy a running fc and slap on some rims/exhaust/tune/etc; but to me thats too easy. I want to learn how the car is put together, how the designers of Mazda came up with what they did, why a clip and bolt is where it is. I can build a s chassis in my sleep, so I want to do the same with these fc's and who knows what other versions of the rx7.

I have no probs. sharing my ideal build with you or anyone

My ideal build is quite simple actually and only 7 steps.

1. I want a clean body (thats what this shell is Im getting tomorrow) gut the car down to bare chassis.
2. Clean any areas that need addressed (surface rust, under coating and what not)
3. Beef up the chassis with a roll cage, coilovers, arms etc; get a turbo 2 hood, mod the tail panels for s5 tail lamps.
4. Get it painted ( I already have the paint to go on it) I'll address that later in a build thread
5. Go through all the wiring connections and make sure they'll solid. Install black interior (my shell has red interior) learn how its put together.
6. Install a fresh rotory motor set.
7. I want some nice gold meshi wheels to put on when its all completed

Wow nice, I too have always been a fan of the S chassis but when it actually came down to buying a car for some reason I just abandoned it all together (like the thought of getting one never crossed my mind once) and ended up getting an SW20( MR2). The plan sounds really good and I wish you the best of luck with what sounds like a street/track car or possibly drift car?

I hear you! Thank you very much

I plan to have take the fc out every now and then, we live at the base of the mountains so it should be quite fun tuning it. Not sure about drifting it though.

P.s we're under some nasty cold weather so my rx7 is put on hold for being dropped off untill Thursday. Im getting excited
