New FC owner from NC
Hey, my name is Justin. I live in the Wake County area of North Carolina. I bought my 87 GXL in the beginning of July. I've been browsing random threads every now and then since then, but I never joined due to lack of quality information to contribute. I'm also part of the Carolina Mazdas forum, but it is just too small online for me, which is part of the reason I joined up here.
As far as modifications go, I have no actual "mods" except for an overhauled engine and new clutch. The guy told me the tranny was from an FD, but I don't think it actually is after looking at pictures and such. As of this post the engine should be at approx. 21k, the chassis at 141k, and the clutch ~16k. It was a salvage(totaled from rear-ending someone) and only $2,400. I'd say that it was a great deal for me. My alignment pulls to the left still after replacing the dry-rotted Pirellis with brand new Yokohamas, so I'm hoping that an alignment job is all I need and not actual framework... Also, he said that it used to have the back seats, but the bins were swapped in instead.
I'm not only into rotaries, but I love a lot of older sports cars in general. Mazdas in general are fun to drive also. My first 5-spd was a 03 Mazda6, and the reason I don't have that is for another time maybe.. I have a lot of 240sx buddies who go drifting, so I'm kinda getting into that. I'm not going to seriously start drifting my car, but driving around on the skidpad at VIR is enjoyable whether you slide or not.
I feel as if I've posted quite a bit already; feel free to ask any questions you may have.

I think I've only seen 4 rx7s aside from mine, but I know a couple Carolina Mazda people have them. The whole car thing down here is kinda subtle from what I can tell. Lots of 240sx action in my area which is better than some other things. There's also plenty of "fixed up" Integras around.

I'm kind of in the Raleigh and Wake Forest area which is probably just a few hours away. If I'm ever going to Wilmington or something I will try and stop by. Same to you if you ever come up here. Meets happen just about every Friday for me and my buddies.

Straight aways aren't as fun for me because my alignment pulls to the left, and I really hate having to compensate for it at high speeds. :/ Gotta get it fixed but Christmas is coming up and I need to get people gifts....... I wish I could just be selfish and buy things for my car. I work a night shift at a mall, so tearing up the parking lot on my way in is probably my favorite thing to do lol.

Despite being old and rusted, I think my suspension does just fine for me. I don't really do any auto-x, but I've driven around a tight drift layout on VIR's skidpad with some buddies of mine. Not exactly like driving really fast on an actual track, but my body roll wasn't too terrible.. I do plan on upgrading to RB springs and Tokico shocks/struts eventually as a modest upgrade. Once the holidays are over with I am gonna free up my exhaust a bit, and then I'll probably go with suspension. Maybe some sort of intake too in the near future because I'm really hating how cluttered my engine bay is..

There's a place near me in Johnston county that works on and parts out 7s. They say they have a ton of different things in stock. I've been meaning to call them to replace the surround for my radio and stuff. I'll ask about a water pump if I ever get around to contacting them lol
