New FC GTU owner from NM

Hello everyone. This is my first RX7, and I don't know very much about rotary engines. I have only had this car for a couple of months, but it's already the most enjoyable vehicle I have ever owned. I have a lot of plans for it, but I will definitely need help along the way. Congrats. to every new member!

Welcome!

Tell us more about the car. How about some pics?

I will have pictures uploaded later today. It's a clean car, and I am very happy with it so far. I do have some technical questions regarding timing that I will be posting today as well. If there is anyone in the ABQ NM area who is willing to teach me more about being a functional rotary mechanic, for the love of Lionel Richie come forward!

I was about to post pictures, then my camera battery died and I can't find the charger, so I have to go buy another. Nothing is easy.

The previous owner had an experience in which some ca ca face attempted to steal the car by opening the driver's door with some form of pry bar. When I purchased the car, the rear portion of the door panel was pulled away from the body in the spot where you see the damage. A co-worker of mine flattened it out as best he could.

I thought the silver touch-up paint would give the rear a bit more shine.

Very little damage on the passenger side, save for minute pebble dents and some scratchage.

The sunroof has the most fading, and many scratches, along with minor hail damage. It took a while to clean out and lubricate the tracks to the sunroof opened automatically. It doesn't close correctly and need some adjustment.

Rust spots from the license plate bracket. The front end looks so much better without it.

Completely stock motor with no major fluid leaks... I may have a vacuum leak somewhere. I have a spot in the RPM range, just above idle, where the engine sounds like it's making that sound when someone sticks their tongue out and does a "nanny nanny boo boo" spitting/farting/whoopee cushion thing.

If you are wondering what the orange ball in the upper-right corner of the picture is- It's a make-shift bonding jumper that I used on a stray black grounding wire that looked like it went under a bold on top of the bell housing. I didn't feel like trying to put it in the proper place.

Some cracks on the speaker housing, and the tabs that keep the rear of the carpet up are broken, but otherwise lovely.

I plan on painting some faux James Bond type "missle launch" or "passenger eject" button next to the security light.

There are also some cracks on the indicator light panel, as well as on top of the dash. There you all have it. It's a keeper.

good bones

good bones to work with. If you are looking for power, a lot of people have gone carburated and have had some good success. Great car. If It was me, I would do all the n/a mods and leave it sexy stock. Make sure everything is running perfect, suspension, brakes, tranny, clutch, motor, and enjoy the hell out of it. With basic n/a mods, you can get it to a high 14 1/4 which is still fun as heck, (pretty much the same stock speed of a TII)

Thank you. Mechanically, that's what I am going for. Right now, my focus is reliability. However, I would like to lower it and do a body kit- nothing too exotic though. I have a lot of questions about replacement fuel supply parts that I will begin posting on the Technical board. Weight reduction is a primary goal I have. I'm not sure how stock I want to leave the interior, as far as stripping the carpet and such, but I would like to do as you recommend and stay n/a with the typical performance mods like an aftermarket exhaust and cold air intake. My wife has a '92 Fox Body convertible that needs restoration as well, so I have my hands full with project cars. I'm very thankful and happy that this car is a quality daily commuter of close to 110 miles/day round trip.

Thank you as well, andy010.
