New FB RX7 owner out of Indiana

Hello Forum,

Wholly cow, I'm an owner of an FB RX7! The previous owner put a few mods on it (larger radiator, oil radiator, and 2-stroke mod to name a few). I want to get the body more aerodynamic and increase the efficiency in the engine. After the efficiency begins to plateau I'll begin to put some performance mods on it (mainly concerning air intake, fuel mixture, ignition, and exhaust). Pictures are soon to follow this post! Thank you to everyone who contributes to this extremely useful database. I'm looking forward to making a few contributions myself.

Happy Wrenching,
ToughMedic68

Some better Backstory!

Thanks for the welcome rxtaxy3.

Here is a bit more history:

It's title has been transferred five (5) times (soon to be six). Initially, it was sold out of Ohio where it was driven for ~80k miles over the span of ~24 years until it was traded in at an Ohio dealership (2007). CRAZY that the miles were so low at this point. The dealership sold/auctioned it to the next owner (also out of Ohio) who brought the odometer up to ~84k miles before selling it in late 2007. Before this sale, I believe the vehicle was left un-modded.

The next owner was the modder who was based in Indiana. He stripped the electrical down to the essentials in order to do autocross. I'm not sure why this was necessary for him to do, but he did it lol. Other mods he performed were the install of the oil cooler, oversized radiator, 2-stroke oil mod, higher amp alternator (I believe from 2Gen, not sure yet), battery relocation, and various mods to the interior. This owner daily drove the car until about Aug2019 and sold it at ~101k miles to a good friend of mine who was also friends with the modder.

My friend, a connoisseur of automobiles, tinkered with the car during his ownership. During this time he fixed vacuum leaks, replaced the fuel pressure pump (7psi), and conducted various other small maintenance issues. He sold the car to me because he literally has a plethora of cars and his wife was getting on him about his most recent acquisition haha.

Being the eccentric person I am the RX7 had to be mine! So I went to work researching, mostly on this forum, and learning as much as I could about the FB RX7. The list of potential fun and educational projects just kept getting longer. I did a test drive (for formalities sake) and made an offer. He accepted and that is how I came to be involved in the RX7 community. I pick up the car tonight (hence the no pics yet) and am greatly looking forward to everything I have gotten myself into xD

Thanks for asking some clarifying questions!

Pictures of the body

If only I'd thought to lift the hood :T I'll get that fixed tomorrow.

You can see the glas sunroof here the best. I'll get more pics up tomorrow!

I also forgot to take pics of the interior! Not that it is in all that great of condition.
It's got a glass sun roof :3

That car has a lot of potential!! It appears to be straight and rust free and a great base for a restoration!

Thank you all for the welcome!

As promised! Here are some pictures of what's under the hood. I know some of the photos show the same area of the engine, but they are slightly different in case you wanted to take a different look at the same spot.

The obvious mods are the oil cooler, oversized radiator, cold air intake, and 2-stroke oil reservoir (which I need to check the level in :T ). The alternator is not standard, but I haven't tested to see what amps it's putting out.

Let me know if you guys can tell just by looking something is off about this. I'm still new and might be missing something obviously wrong. I know the carb needs to be rebuilt because of an initial lack of power from a stop to acceleration. Not sure where to start, but I'm thinking the electric system would be best.

Thanks for any input,

TM68

Cold Air Intake, oil cooler

You can kind of see the oversized radiator and the more powerful alternator is there too.

in line Fuel Filter is there

You can somewhat see a black box underneath the upper radiator hose. I believe it is for the aftermarket gauges inside the vehicle. Perhaps it is some sort of power managing system?
