new in CT, wanted to add following

NA 1988 fc3. I've followed the pages of the owners manual for engine removal and have also removed the hood. The owners manual doesn't provide lift point locations for attaching the chain. It also says to remove the bolts attaching the tranny to the motor but I'm unsure how to break the connection between the two. I may pull the tranny as well (car not running when purchased and lower tranny drain plug missing in action) but figure it will be easier to do the pieces separately. I searched, particularly for pictures and looked at the faqs but didn't have any luck. Any pics, links or advice will be much appreciated

I must be two tired to figure out how to get five posts.

I also am in the process of yanking out a rotary that is a no go.
And the trans which will be replaced due to the no go rotary.

I am lifting the trans and engine out together.

Unconnected all the wiring, linkage, engine mounts, tranny crossmember, driveshaft.

I hooked to the rear of the engine on a hook that is already there, then I pulled the 2 alternator bolts out, got 2-3" long grade 8 bolts, same size, and hooked to them both.

I am using a chainfall for this, not the cherry picker.

PS - mine is getting a 350/350 combo

sometimes its also easier to drop the motor/trans out the bottom of the car and leave it connected to the crossmember, drop it on a dolley and roll it out.
just a thought

lift brackets is in front of the engine and the back. Remove all the bolts you see that connect engine to tranny. Remove engine mount bolts. Support the tranny. i used a stackup of bricks and 2x4's. Lift engine up just a touch and give it a tug by the chains. You'll feel it start to break loose. If you do decide to take out tranny also, remove shifter, driveshaft, disconnect speedo cable, backup sensor, neutral switch sensor, disconnect crossmember and then you can pull it all out.

I'm also using a chain suspended from a garage ceilingn and a 3000 pound comealong to do the lifting. I was thinking about doing both together but then I'd better put those tranny bolts back in. I saw the hook in the back of the motor, good choice. I'll also look at the alt bolt holes. Not going to go 350, yet.

Down state. I saw there was a parts swap/gtg in bpt recently that I wanted to go to but couldn't make. Just wanted to look around. Too new to mazda to have anything to swap or know what I need to pick up.

Seen this done with honda's but don't know about the rx7. For one thing, I've been using the crossmember as a floor jack point. Not exactly sure how i'd lift it though I suppose I could do one frame rail then the other. I could pick the whole front of the car up with the comealong if I had a secure spot. Thinking stearing rack but wouldn't want to bend anything, though I may be replacing it anyway. Is this a preferred way to get it out?

Fairfield county. I'd be more specific but I have "my car was stolen from my drivewayitis." Nothing personal and not that I think anyone is going to steal my rolling shell, lol. And, it's not a honda.

I'm digging the car in your avitar.

Thanks, I'll look but do you have a general location for the bracket in the front? The one in the back seems pretty clear.

Also, I've only removed the brackets on the bottom of the tranny. I'm thinking I'll have to remove the intake manny to get a better shot at the ones on the top.

This is for the tranny to engine? The nut on the driver's side is the starter motor, I believe. I took one of the bolts out on the pass side and am guessing the other two are on the top of the housing. I think I might take the intake manny off for ease of access.

i put my motor and trans in by dropping the car down ontop of it, its the only it would have worked (2jz with a v161 isnt too small) it rubbed on the frame rails gettin it in there too she's pretty shoe horned. i used an engine hoist to lift the front of the car up froma couple different points and it worked out really well...

if you need any help tho give me a shout, im in Simsbury CT, up near the MA border.

thanks, thats my baby in that avatar... although to be totally honest... shes a whiny baby with a big appetite and always needs to see the doctor (mechanic) so im thinking of trading her away for a US legal Skyline...
