New to the club
I have been the proud custodian of a 1983 RX7 GSL since 1993. My uncle bought it brand new and sold it to me when I graduated high school with 35K miles on it. I put over 100K in a course of 7 years. I retired my baby in the year 2000 and it has been garaged since. Man I loved driving that car!!!
After four garages in four different states I am finally going to give it some long overdue love in the coming months!!! The car starts but I think the apex seals finally had enough – it sounds rough after it’s warmed up. I’m sure I will be reading a lot on this forum and asking your advice in the foreseeable future.
Thank you all in advance and here are some pics of “Max”!

Welcome!! The car appears to be in excellent shape!! As far as the engine being worn, I would perform a proper compression test with a rotary compression tester before assuming anything is wrong with the engine. 137k miles is nothing for a 12A. The 12A will last a long long time. Many clubs members here have well over 200k miles on their original engine.
It may be time for a carb rebuild, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, belts, hoses, fuel and air filters, new oil for the engine, trans, and diff etc.

Thank you for the suggestions. Getting this car back on the road is high on my list of projects for this year. Do you know where I can get my hands on a rotary compression tester for a reasonable price?

There is a vendor here that sells a rotary compression tester for a reasonable price, ~$300 or so. https://www.rx7club.com/rotary-compr...ester-com-325/
