New to the boards & new GSL-SE project
Howdy!
I'm Matt, from Sacramento, CA. Joined the boards to assist with a little project I started recently - fixing up a 1984 RX-7 GSL-SE. My dad had one when I was young and I've always really loved the look. I'm not a wrench by nature, but I'm using this project to elevate my technical abilities up to the level of my interest in cars.
The car is silver with maroon leather interior. My dad had a black leather interior - must have been the only one in the country because I couldn't find one when I started my search for a base car. The whole interior will have to be replaced so if anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it.
My intention is to restore it as close to factory stock as possible with only performance/reliability mods that make financial sense and are largely hidden from view. I just want it to be pristine example of this particular car.
I started with the oil filter pedastal fix - fairly straightforward. The guy I bought it from mentioned it had a leak around the oil cooler which is well documented situation on the boards. Turns out it has hanging from the oil lines and zip ties as the brackets had sheared and were still bolted to the car. Need to order a replacement - any recommendations on whether I pick up a used one or new OEM?
Anyway, tons of work to do on this thing. I'll post photos/videos soon to show you how it looks now and keep you posted on my progress.
