I have 85 rx7 and i believe i have a broken head gasket. The car spits coolant into the exhaust and leaks the coolant between the header and the exhaust pipe, as well as smokes from the muffler. The question I have is when i searched for a head gasket online for my car, i find a cylinder head gasket, is this the same as the head gasket or a completely different part. If its not what I need where can i find this part? Thanks in advance. I really love this car and I got it for 1 thousand but it needs lots of work. I'm going to school for automotive so plan on working on it while i'm in school. Plan on getting a rebuild kit and doing the work myself, get machine work done on it and port it so i can use a weber carb ive been looking at. I'm new to engine work so feel free to give me some pointers.

You need to read a lot more, rotary's don't have Heads, nor a head gasket. What is wrong with your car is it has a blown water seal. To repair this you will need a full rebuild, this will run you 1000 and up.

haha okay well thanks, ill do that. Can i not just replace the water seal?

You have to break the entire motor down to fix the seal and it is very hard to get all the seals back into the same spot they came from. When you dont get the seals back into the correct spots there is compression issues.

It is just a smart move to rebuild it.

true, its what id like to do, but money issues don't really allow me to do this at this time, im about to move out of state for college and right now i don't have a car, so i was hoping i could just fix what is absolutely broken so i can get back and forth from school work and home and then save up money for the complete rebuild.
