Got this little thing, with a great engine. It just needs some wet sanding/buffing, fuel tank cleaning, and fuel pump replacement.

It's a 12A with stock carb, thinking of switching in the long run (maybe a year) to a 13B, or whenever I can find a good deal/condition. The stock carb's fuel lines are probably gunked up as it doesn't turn, but when it does (sometimes) the engine runs clean (and idles for a few seconds)


I'm stuck between two decisions.
1. buy a 650 holley now and just plug it in (after air compressing the lines clean)
or
2. clean out the current carburetor and try to make it work.


This is going to be a daily until I get the 13B, which will have all the goodies attached.

 

 

Welcome. Just rebuild the carb. The holley is too big to work on a 12a stock motor.

 

everyone says different, a lot of people are 100% against the nikki carburetor.

 

Chestnut can eat 69 two ounce hot dogs and buns in ten minutes. He couldn't eat a single eight and 3/4 pound hot dog on a giant bun in that time. It's all about velocity. A stock port 12a can't pull enough air to make a carb that big work right.

awesome, I will play around with quicksteeling off the rest of the vents and finally trying it. Had gotten the holley at the beginning, but after much tribunal thoughts (and the hardship of changing the fuel pump to 5-7PSI, intake manifold (and total costs going around $800) I decided to just return everything and stick with the nikki.
