Question New 1993 rx7 owner needing help after 1st day

Hi, i would like to introduce myself! My name is stuart and im from cardiff, uk!
I have just bought myself a 1993 rx7 which has a couple of mods such as veilside front bumper, and side skirts(think they are veilside), 18' ultralite 7-spoke alloys with eagle f1 boots all round.. Carbon fibre spoiler and carbon fibre mirrors, it has a stainless, dump valve and air filters which i dont know the make of yet(just had car last night!),hks gauges and momo steering wheel, polished inlet manifold and some other mods probably which i havent noticed yet or could be that i dont know what im looking at lol!

I have a blitz turbo timer and digital boost controller to fit on there, but havent got a clue where to start or where to look for the info on fitting them, so if anyone could either help or direct me somewhere to help me, i would be very grateful!

I have owned the car for a day now and am having problems with it, due to my friend opening the radiator cap when it was hot to check the water(bad mistake), and lost alot of her coolant, because we were not at home with it, i needed to get her back so, topped it up with cold water put the lid on and just drove it back home, but it burst the water pipe which goes from the throttle body and down behind the inlet manifold somewhere??????????????????
I have replaced the pipe with some samco hosin i had there and that seems to have stopped the leak so happy days......

But now i dont know how to drain the coolant, what the mixture is for anti freeze, what anti freeze is best for her, how and where to fill it up and then how to bleed the system as im guessing there was air lock in it which caused the pipe to burst in the first place ???? So if anyone could me with this i would be very very grateful as im unable to drive it until i have done this!!!

Thanks if anyone takes the time to read this!!

Stu

Hi Stu,

All of your questions are here on this board, you just need to take some time and use your search button.

There are no shortcuts to learning this car, it's going to take a lot of time and effort. When I first bought mine I parked it for two months to learn about it and I'm glad I did or I probably would have blown it up.

READ THE 3RD GEN FAQ. There is a huge thread on there about your cooling system called "the big fat fd3s cooling thread" if i remember correctly. Unfortunately for you, dumping your coolant is one of the biggest things that can ruin your engine. If your low coolant buzzer ever comes on, you've probably fried your engine. You mentioned gauges as one of the mods I hope one of these is water temp because once the stock one reads too high your engine is again maybe screwed.

The turbo timer isn't an item thats recommended to install by most people. I have one in my car but only because it was pre-installed and I have it set to like 15 seconds I think.

I'm surprised your friend didn't fry his hand off btw, the water gets damn hot.

These cars are a blast, but they're also very unforgiving if you don't take the time to learn them.

hi, my friend almost fried his face off, not just his hand lol, yeah 1 of the gauges is water, doesnt really seem to go over 100 so i think its ok!the coolant buzzer went off once when it popped the pipe, but we turned it off straight away, and i mean straight away so it wouldnt do any damage..
i have now bled the system and it all seems fine so happy days(fingers crossed), now im gonna drop all the coolant again so i can do a proper mix of coolant and water, as i only used water to see if there was any problems with the actual cooling of the car(water is free, coolant not)....
just wondering what mix you use for your cooling??
p.s. thanks for the reply!
