Missing my old '79
Hi,
Lately I've been feeling nostalgic for my old '79 RX-7. That got me fantasizing about finding and buying an old 1st-gen and fixing it up, and that led me to here. I already have 1 toy car - a '96 M-Edition Miata - and a second would surely result in an unhappy marriage so the RX-7 is likely to remain a fantasy, but that's life.
Upon joining the forum the board invited me to introduce myself.
I grew up in Louisiana, and at the time the legal driving age was 15 (Really! As a 15-year old schmuck it was GREAT!!), and so my Dad gave me his '79 RX-7 to drive, I think when I was 16. It was a truly great car, and managed to endure a lot of abuse my ignorant self dished out. All good things come to an end however and eventually the car was sold.
Ever since I owned that car I wanted a GSL-SE (mine was a base model), and eventually that turned into wanting an '85 GSL-SE.
And since owning my Miata I've wondered what it was that made the pop-up headlights feel so good, with the solid, satisfying feel/sound when they opened and closed. The headlights on my MIata seem to use the same mechanism, but don't feel nearly as solid, and I've wondered if my memory is faulty, or if there is something that could be replaced or refreshed to bring them back to like-new. I've never found a solution and am curious to browse here and see if anyone has ever discussed that sort of thing for their RX-7s.

Welcome to the forum Steve!! I wouldn't hesitate in finding an SA or even a GSL-SE! Prices are at an all time high which is unfortunate for someone looking to get back into an RX-7. But that aside, they are incredible cars and pair well with the Miata. I don't think its a decision you would come to regret if you were able to find a nice 79 or 80!
