Mazda 1986 RX-7 FC Garage find restoration

Hi there so this is my new project. Always wanted one of these and when I saw the ad come up, I couldn’t refuse! SO I have the fortune of having a good friend of mine helping me take it apart and restore it. A lot of work! Engine was seized and finally got to open it up the other day and… well… take a look…
Anyone have one of these middle irons for sale by any chance?

Colllected the car in this condition. Stock everything, even decals!

The broken water channel, middle iron

Closeup of the break

The front rotor was seized within the housing… not good

The only way we managed to crack this thing open!

a S4 ('86-'88) GXL. One of the best trims IMO.

Failure of the water seal jackets like that are pretty common, especially for cars that have sat for a long period of time. If you can't find a used center iron, you can use the center iron from a S5 ('89-'91), and that's available new still. The only real difference is the S5 does not have provisions for the EGR valve.

Do yourself a favor and download the factory service manual. It has a good section in there on engine inspection and assembly.

Nice, good luck with the project, it looks like a great start, even with the little setbacks.
