Lurker and future FD owner

Hey everbody! My name's Kenth and I hail from Sweden . I have a background in IT/programming but my father is a long-time mechanic with his own shop and I've always had an interest in cars since I got my license. I'm also very interested in japanese culture, so combining the two I'm an obvious JDM fan (although my favorite hero car is the T/A from Smokey and the Bandit ).

I'm also a sucker for oddities and the 3rd generation RX-7 just speaks to me. Affordable, sporty-looking, fast, twin turbo:d, JDM icon with maybe the most unique yet functioning engine to make production? Sign me up!

I'm finally in a position where I can afford an enthusiast car and I felt the timing is right to ****** an FD given the prices haven't reached complete insanity yet, so I'm excited to be working with a local importer to find and import an RX-7 straight from Japan via USS auctions. My desired specs are a bit specific so the search has been going slow but one way or another I'm dead set on getting one. If all goes well I might be a rotary owner by early 2020 or maybe even as my own selfish Xmas gift! Wish me luck .

Thanks! I'm currently searching for a manual with sunroof since I really like the look and feel of it, but those seem far and few between, as far as the Japanese market go. If I can't find one within another week or so I'm going to be looking for a clean series 8 instead, should be easier.

Minor update: decided to forgo the sunroof and opt for a series 8 instead. Almost nabbed an yellow 2002 Bathurst R. It was a bit too much over my initial budget and had a few mods done to it which made me hesitant, but in retrospect it would've been nice. Only got a quote for the full amount (shipping, registration etc) but the estimate from that is that the car price was around 25-27k USD. Oh well, someone probably got happy hehe . Love the Sunburst Yellow, too bad it's only on the limited Bathurst R editions.

Also, during my initial search my contact found an FD with a weird body kit on it. If anyone knows what kit this is please tell! He said it was one of the weirdest kits he's seen and I can't find it on any searches.

Update for completion:

Took a while but managed to secure a real nice 1999 Type RS in Innocent Blue Mica. Busted the budget a bit but got some nice goodies; PowerFC, Exedy single clutch, Rotary Works V-mount, alu oil pan, newly rebuilt twins. Been looked over and tuned by a rotary expert mechanic. I'm extremely happy with it .

good choice on the 99 ibm, that silver fd looks like a custom home made veilside replica kit gone wrong.

Nice choice, I may be going through this process soon. I'm interested to know how this goes for you and what company you used. I'm looking into a local company Montu Motors.
