MN Lucky find in MN

Hey all, my name is James. I recently purchased a 95 rx7. I've been reading like crazy the last few days before I bought the car, trying to see what I'm getting myself in to. And because I was all but certain I would run into issues due to the strange story of this car.

Now for the strange story for those who are interested...
The car was purchased in 2007 for 17k by some guy I don't know. This guy ended up shooting and killing someone in his front yard, which obviously brought on some hefty legal fees. The lawyer needed 25k and guy asks his girlfriend to help out. Being the smart person she is, she doesn't just fork over thousands of dollars, but instead offers to buy the rx7 for 8k.
The guy goes to prison for a few years(self defense), and the relationship fizzles out. He finally gets out of prison, but can't afford to buy back his beloved rx7. And the ex girlfriend is tired of paying monthly storage costs for the car. This is where I step into the picture.
I was working out of town and staying in a motel for a few months. So naturally, I got to know the bartender at the attached bar restaurant pretty well, who also happened to be the ex girlfriend of the guy above. Every once in a while she would talk about this rx7 she has and how its been sitting for years and how she'd like to get rid of it. So I'm thinking yea...yea..some old busted down tuner that your boyfriend beat the hell out of...I didn't want an old mazda anyways, I had my heart set on an Impreza wrx because I looove subarus. Well some time passed and I finally ended up going to look at the car. When the garage door opened up, what I saw was amazing. A completely stock (except rims), rust free fd3. I hop right in to see if it runs of course. And I get nothing. She tells me the battery is brand new....2 yrs ago ><
Some more time passes and I start doing some research, and I find out...this car is worth 14k, all the ex girlfriend wants is her 8k back...wow I need to see if this thing runs. So I show up with some jumper cables, 2 gallons of premium fuel, a bottle of gumout, a can of starting fluid, and a 12 pack of beer. It took a couple hours, but the mighty rx7 took its first breath in close to 3 yrs. I let it warm up then took off down the road, next thing I know Im going 120 in 4th gear..so smooth. Fell in love right there and knew I could not let myself pass on this deal. I have a feeling this will be the best 8k dollars I have ever spent. Well if you made it this far, you deserve a reward..here are the pics.

do you really want to be driving around in a car that a guy that shot someone in his front yard loves ... and wants? hmm ... maybe you should consider faking your own death and putting on gray hairs to attend your own funeral ... like that Geico commercial.

(okay, I couldn't resist. it's the child in me, what can I say?)

Yea I thought about the guy being super pissed, but I live 500 miles away, and some locations/names in the story may or may not have been changed ;p

There are 107k miles on the chassis. The girls dad said he found a paper claiming that the motor was rebuilt 10k miles ago but can't find it now..either way I'll be going over the car with a fine tooth comb and you guys will be along for the ride. Thanks for having me.
