Looking to start an FC build soon

Hello rx7club!

I created an account awhile ago but never really got too into the forum. Had plans to buy an FD but never followed through.

Previously I built an e36 M3 with a pt6266 turbo running e85 (650whp) so I've got my feet wet building cars and making power. Recently bought a 2013 535 BMW so I could have reliable transportation but now I miss the character of older cars. Always loved 80s and 90s Japanese cars so here we are.

I want to buy an FC as a project car. I'm currently debating picking up a cheap NA car because they're easy to find versus holding out for a turbo 2 -- preferably one that is a little rough -- that way I don't feel bad about modding it. My plans for the car would be to eventually make upwards of 400whp. With that being said I know almost everyone is immediately going to tell me to get a turbo 2. However, if I am going to build/upgrade/replace everything from motor, turbo system, brakes, driveshaft, diff, axles, so on and so forth, how much does it really matter what I started with? This is currently what I am reading through the forums trying to iron out all the differences and what parts last at high power, what parts don't, etc. I know that if I was going to re do my m3 build I would have bought a 328 because the m3 go fast bits and LSD, etc all had to get upgraded anyway.

If anyone has any thoughts or faced my similar dilemma let me know. Otherwise I'll just be poking around build threads and what not getting a better idea of what I want to do.

Welcome! You would be better off to start with an NA as they are readily available still. You can make that kind of power but be prepared to spend quite a bit of cash to do so. The FC is a great handling car and even in stock form is a blast to drive. With a few mods it's even better. I prefer my cars mostly original however, but that's just me. Again, welcome the forum. You came to a great community that will be happy to help with any questions you may have.

Right, as with any car, you've gotta pay to play. Except maybe with junkyard v8s but I get the sense ya'll don't like those words around here. Maybe I'll put the money I save on a NA FC towards a REW swap in the future.
