Long Time Lurker

Hey everyone, long time lurker here finally looking to get involved in the community.

I was building an A90 supra for time attack earlier this year that was totaled as a driver ran a red light. Managed to walk away unscathed with no injuries, thankfully.

Was toying with the idea of what to build next as I really wanted to compete in Gridlife and GTA, and figured why not just do something purpose built for a class, rather than a mix of street and track. This led me to looking at Rx7s again. I’ve never had an FD, so it would be a new chassis to me, but after having been on the forums researching and learning for years, it didn’t feel like a new chassis in terms of knowledge.

I wound up finding an FD, happens to be another forum member, that was being built into a drift car but had a lot of the primary components for a quick track car, so I jumped on it. Picture from the seller, car is currently torn apart for weight stripping, paint, and chassis mounting aero.

I’ll start a build thread at some point, but wanted to introduce myself first. Car will be prepped for Track mod and GTA Limited classes.

Primary needs before 2024 season are:
Tune - currently talking around figuring out who I think would be a good fit.
Suspension - Super Now arms and solid bushings on the way, debating on which 3 way Coilovers, going to order adjustable front and rear sway bars and then play with tuning combination during shakedowns after alignment and corner balancing
Wheels/tires/brakes - 18x11 RS05RR squared with 315 Nankang AR. Mulling over a few BBK combinations for good Brake bias F/R, Chips master cylinder
Chassis/aero - cut and weld quarter panels, straight cut rear quarter/bumper support, large dual element rear wing and front wing underway, rear diffuser, need to figure out chassis mounting locations, paint
Performance - swap ecu to haltech 2500 or R3 (currently haltech 550), swap injectors 1300xds primary and 2600xds secondary (currently 1050x and 2000x), plumb in diff and transmission coolers, OS Giken super lock LSD
Misc - Craft Square side mirrors, Car Shop Glow front turn signals, ATX 30, 6 point harnesses

That is about it as far as direction of the car is going, I think. Shooting for shakedowns early 2024 prior to the start of the season in March/April.

Really happy to see that car found a good home. It was legitimately a great deal. Any reason in particular you saw that made it take so long to sell?

I think it was a combination of a few things. Being a rebuilt title car, the seller had already submitted the paperwork and inspection in KY but was waiting on getting the title in hand. I think that deterred a good portion of buyers as they, understandably, wanted to wait for the title in hand before transfer of funds. Being a primary track car, that wasn’t a concern for me. He had also recently moved from KY to FL and was in the process of moving back to KY, so life got in the way I’m sure. I’m actually only about 15 minutes from where he was moving to in KY, so it made things super easy.

Welcome to the forum. Are you planning to make a build thread for this car? I’d love to see the progress of the list you gave.

Yep, a build thread is in order. I’m finishing up a track bike project at the moment and then it’ll be on to fd progress. I’ve been accumulating parts, so work will start in earnest within the next few weeks or so I’d assume.
