Just purchased a 93 Touring
Hello all,
I bought a 1993 FD Touring a few weeks ago, Vintage Red TC. 19,500 original miles. It's completely bone stock and in pretty much showroom condition. I'm coming from an 07 BMW 335i, which was deemed a lemon and bought back by BMW NA just a few months back.
I had never actually driven an RX7 before going to see the one I eventually bought, and nothing could have really prepared me for the experience. I've driven a few small sports cars before, (blown Honda S2000, Z4 BMW) but the RX7 behaves in a completely different way on the road. Unlike the 335, which handled decently in its own right once the run-flats were gone, the RX7 feels like a willing participant in the experience. When in the corners, it doesn't feel like it's just humoring you and grudgingly hauling its weight around the bend. It sounds obvious, but it just feels as if there isn't any weight there to hold you back. It's quick but not overly so, but pulls smooth to redline. I bought it strictly as a weekend car, maybe 50 miles a week tops.
I recently took it to Evil Genius Racing here in Sacramento, had a fluid change and an overall inspection on the car.
Right now, I'm just enjoying the car, but I'm trying to decide if I'm going to keep it completely stock or if I will do a few basic mods to it in the future:
Downpipe
AST
Stock-mount radiator (Koyo NFlow perhaps)
Stock-mount I/C (Greddy standard mount?)
Don't want to do any power mods really. I'm just wanting to, if possible, "improve" the weak points of the car. Any relatively basic things I can do to improve cooling and/or reliability is the target. Otherwise I want the car sounding and looking as close to stock as possible.
Anyway, I look forward to posting/asking some questions in the future.
Nick

You're definitely going to get an "earful" on what ya oughta do to the car but in the end, it's your baby, so enjoy the car and take baby steps with all the advice you're going to get.
