Just drove my 1979 Mazda RX7 for the 1st time in 23 years.

It was great! I bought it new in 1979. I'm going to have to work through some issues and that is why I joined this group! I had the car worked on to get it running, but it was hard to find anyone who would. Does anyone know of a good rotary engine mechanic?

Welcome!! Woyld love to hear about your buying experience when the car was new and would love tonsee pictures of the car!! As for local rotary shops, you may want to browse the regional forums and see if anyone knows someone there. Other than that, we are all willing to lend a hand and answer questions!

Welcome! Always good to see original owners find there way here. Unfortunately, most people who worked on these cars when new are now retired. The good news is you mostly just need a general mechanical knowledge to work on 90% of any problems you are likely to encounter. The engines themselves are pretty reliable, just keep oil in the engine and don't overheat it. Everything else (clutches, brakes ect...) are just common mechanical skills.

Sometimes parts can be an issue. More and more, you may need to work harder to find some things. Resources like this site can be helpful with not only info, but finding parts. Can't imagine the feeling of driving the car again after that long. Yes, post up some pics of your beloved.

Hey there, we are brand new owners of a 79, and don't live too far away from McFarland. I'm already asking my mechanic contacts your same question - who can work on these. I'll keep you in mind.

i know how it feels getting back in the seat after years, but not 23 of them. how was it?

i'm in for photos whenever you post them, and i'm here to help in any way that i can as well.

also, both of you stay safe up there in WI.
