Just bought an RX7

i finally bought an rx7. its an '87 NA. I bought it for $400 from a guy that let it sit in front of his house for 2-3 years. Its got a blown motor and is in need of a paint job. But he lived in an area with very good weather so there wasnt any rust whatsoever, and it was under a tree. So, now i've got to get this car running. any suggestions on how to do that? should i do a rebuild or go for a jdm front clip?

Welcome!

You have a couple options: JDM engines are about the same as cheap rebuilds. A proper rebuild with new parts will run you close to $3k. If money is no option why not get creative and put a Pport NA in it? If money is an issue you are probably better off just putting in an S4 JDM engine and calling it a day. If you want the S5 JDM engine expect more work and money.

If money is not an issue you could always drop a V8 into it.

I would recommend looking for a decent 13B that has been rebuilt, possibly in a damaged RX7.

You could do a swap like the 87 FC I just bought. 4G63 boosted!

i think i'm gonna go with an engine rebuild for several reasons. i dont want a jdm engine thats gonna blow on me in 6 months, and end up doing a rebuild then. second, parts are cheaper for an NA. Also, less parts to upgrade. if i got the turbo engine, i would end up broke buying new turbo, intercooler, etc. although it would be cool to have a TII.
