I'm back from a loooong absence

...so I'm basically new. I used to race a 2nd gen in SCCA (ITS) more than 10 years ago (before I had my daughter). I've just recently picked up a 3rd gen and trying to get it back on the street.

I'm excited to be getting back into RX-7s and I'm thrilled with this beautiful, red FD I got. I've basically forgotten all I knew about working on them, though, so I very much appreciate y'alls help as I get through this.

When it came to me, it wasn't turning over and the clutch was on the floor. I replaced the starter and the clutch master and fixed those two issues. The car turns over now, but doesn't fire up. Fuel delivery looks good. It sat for about a year. Would the oil around the rotor housings take a while to make a seal? What's the proper way to get a long idle rotory started?

Also, the tach is sitting at 2000 when the car is off. That seems strange. Is that a harbinger of doom or anything?

Thanks!

Thanks for the posts. I'll keep you guys up to date with the progress. First step is to get it to start and assess the engine's condition. I'll have to find some place in Houston, TX area to have a compression test done once I can get it places. Once I have the stock configuration validated to be in good condition, I'll start some upgrades. The odo shows 150k miles. I do not know if all those are on the original motor and if they are, it will likely not last long, from what I hear.

That thing looks great, I'd verify fuel is pumping and then move onto the spark. My experience is that rotaries will fire up even with relatively low compression. So I'd try to check off all the normal combustion engine checks and then make it to compression testing.
