hi forum people.
So my name is Brock, and I have always been a fan of the rx7 (any generation). Honestly it originally had nothing to do with the engine, I just liked the looks. (now I love them for both [the looks and the engine in case I wasn't clear])
Well, I was in the market for a cheap car, and I found a running 85 rx7 for 800 bucks. How could I possibly pass that up?
2 days later I am $800 poorer and the owner of a 1985 Black Mazda Rx7.
Since then, I have been repairing the crap out of it. (mostly the interior, it was in BAD shape) Fortunately for me, the engine is running fine except for an exhaust leak that I probably should get looked at soon...
So basically I'm semi-restoring the car. it needs a bunch of random parts. So beware: i will be relying on this forum a lot in the next coming months...
Here is my problem: im a nerd, not a mechanic. I understand how engines work in theory, but when I open the hood (which is pretty easy cause the latch is broken) my brain melts. I have no Idea what I am looking at. That goes for any car, not just rotaries. rotary's? rotaryies? [sp?]
Example: I bough a turn signal switch assembly from a local guy yesterday.. As a bonus he gave me this hunk of metal with random holes and tubes sticking out of it. I didn't know what it was (and was too ashamed to ask). Turns out its a carburetor.
wow...
Yeah I have a lot of learning to do.
Anyways, if anyone reads this post [unlikely] from central Illinois[more unlikely], hit me up with a reply so I know that I'm not alone. (that sounded way more emotional than originally intended)
