when's the last time u actually looked at the car? if u open the hood and look u'll see it's got a 13b in it not a 12a. how much reading on the forum have u done? fd3s is in the vin. actually, the vin will everything u need to know about the car. try the search button at the top of the page.

Thank you 84Porsche944, rxtasy3 B nice! I just purchased the car 1 hour before posting this. I've been doing some reading and YES is see now I have a 13b, but that still dosn't tell me what a 13b is? I'll keep reading and I'm sure I'll learn more.

Advice!!!!
I have a 1993 RX7 NA auto trans. Body is near mint, but the engine needs work. I picked it up for really cheap so i have some money to play with.

Thinking of changing out engine with JDM TT + manual trans.......

Im glad the links helped. The last one I posted is an FAQ for the 3rd gen RX7. If you look under the A section you will find some links under "Auto to Manual Swap". These links will provide you with a great amount of insight on what it takes to do the swap.

The easiet way would be to buy a manual trans JDM engine, a US spec manual trans engine harness, and a manual trans ecu, along with the rest of the components like clutch pedal and stuff, and have them installed when you do the swap.

I think a JDM engine will need a few adjustments for it to correctly work in a US spec car. Speak to Japan2LA, he supplies JDM engines and might be able to tell you what all is involved in a JDM swap.

Good luck, and welcome to the club (just try to ignore the haters, lol)

P.S. Does the NA in your post stand for Naturaly Aspirated? If so, no 1993 RX7 was NA. Every one that came off the assembly line was twin turbo.

Well at 1st look i thought it was a naturaly aspirated rx7, but i really only looked at it for a few minuets. I'll re-look tomorrow when i go to the shop.
The story of this car is this.
The car was abandoned at our local airport 3 years ago. I worked with the air port to get "permits to sell" on the abandoned cars.
The rx7 stared right up with a jump start, smoked and ran poorly. After a few minuets the smoke cleared up. I didn't see a intercooled or turbo so i assumed it's a NA.

The carfax stated it was a 93, but I don't have the title yet.

I'm keeping this car for myself and want to restore / rebuild it correctly.

update YEA!! It’s a TT when I picked her up Fri. I knew nothing of rx7's.
I've read all weekend I've learned much!
At this point I'm going to do a full Factory restore with a few simple upgrades.
Everyone in this forum, everyone changes and modifies there rx7's V8's, 2jz's
After reading all weekend I've learned this is a near perfect car just the way it is.
It would be a shame to modify her to the point she looses her identity.

If anyone knows a quality shop in or near Louisiana please let me know.

Thanks B

The key here is to take as many pics of the interior, engine compartment (all angles), and post them on here (photobucket, or mpeg it on through the "post pic" in your profile). Just like "Jeff5808" said, every FD3S came off the assembly line with twin scroll sequential turbo package (or something of that variation). If you don't know what a turbo is or how it functions then this would explain the "Newbishness" to your questions...research is very critical in how you are able to maintain your vehicle...so reading for a day isn't going to cut it. I'm not trying to provoke you, but this is a serious matter. You need to look into the cars history (CARFAX), find out what the car came with (VIN to identify what it came with such as: paint, engine, interior, etc) and to give us a detailed description of the car. Look into how a rotary engine works either by reading it or seeing a visual on Youtube.com and it will be in your best interest to find your nearest Rotary Engine specialist to find out he compression of the Front and Rear rotor housing. Any veteran car buyer would at least know these facts before buying or even investing any funds into a vehicle. If you do succeed in making this car a potential "BEAST" Kudos to you my friend...but until then, I stand to be corrected.

Question about VIN

I have a question about VIN numbers...I'm new here, so I applogise for any mistakes and for posting this in here ( I can't post new threads yet).

I have a "1991" FD3S I purchased about a month ago from a Canadian Importer. I just got it home and have been picking around with it the past few days. After doing some investigation I'm starting to doubt the vehicle year, but have no idea how to decipher the VIN number. Any help would be great. I have posted some pictures on other sites and alot of people have been commenting on the car saying no way it's a 1991.....????

Here is a bit of info on the car:

Twin Turbo
Red Leather Interior, Red door panels, red rear panels, red seats etc..
Chrome around the gauges
every Option, Moon roof, pw, pl, cruise, a/c
Bose Acoustic Wave stereo
16" 5 spoke alum wheels, with mazda logos
mazda logos on front bumper
the front bumper looks like a Spirit R with the same lip
HID headlights..they seem to be stock
it has only 90,000kms (56000 miles i think, converted)
VIN FD3S100056
Light silver in color
has the Enki Yellow Spare tire

I know that the FD in north america didn't arrive until 1993 and that it's first year was 1991 in Japan, but a few people have commented saying it must be a 2001. I really don't think so, but would like to know for sure.

Any help is greatly appreciated, and thank you in advance

there is no reason to put anything with pistons in an RX chassis, it defeats the purpose of RX

@hulanfd3s, it seems as you have a true jdm based off of the vin, however i've only seen sites for decyphering the oem rx-7's vin codes. if the serial numbering system is the same, though, then your car would be the 56th one off the line for the 92 model year in japan

Did you leave any numbers off the vin? Its a little short, but that might be because it is a JDM car.
I thought that the 3rd gen wasnt made until 92 in Japan? Post a pic of the car. Its easy to tell a 2001 from early model 3rd gen, unless its been upgraded to a 99 spec.
