Hi---first thread
Good Morning,
I figure I've lurked here for at least two years with no good reason I've not registered before today. I've already gathered a lot of good information here, and while I'm not a prolific forum poster, I hope I might contribute something back over time.
I'm the original owner of a '93 CYM R1 which has about 96,000 miles. The car has been to Watkins Glen once and Laguna Seca on numerous occasions, although the last time it was on-track was 1999. Modifications are few (Eibach springs, RacingBeat cat-back, K&N filter), although the decision to begin some modifications are what brought me here to the forum. I've taken care of the car as I have every vehicle I've owned, but I've also been lucky--the engine has never been apart. When I left the military in 2000, I couldn't get the car to pass California emissions, and it has been largely stored (maybe 1000 miles in 10 years?) since then. Motorcycle road racing, then Formula 2 sidecar racing took over my priorities, and other than being regularly started, warmed, and driven a few miles (with a couple of fluid changes), the car has been sitting under a cover in our garage for years.
A couple years ago, the car began spitting a little more particulate out the exhaust on start-up, which made me think of leaking (apex and other) seals, so I found my interest in the car rekindled as I thought I might as well upgrade everything "while I'm at it" with the engine. As I then found myself overseas for work these past two years, I've taken the opportunity to research what I want/need and then order parts in order to put together a car which will hopefully spend at least half of it's time on road courses (maybe more if I live in an emissions-stringent state when I get back). I've recently learned I'll be overseas another three years, so I'm still deciding whether the work will be done while I'm gone or if it will go back to waiting. Either way, I miss my car.
Thanks for reading my little story (if you did!), and I'm grateful for the information all over this board. Happy motoring!

Dude, Sick cars. You've got no choice but to be proud. Three years over seas is some time, I can't make it a week away from my car. It's a 1990 convertible RX7, non turbo, but, I'm hoping to install one. I still have lots to learn about this car. I only owned it for about a month now. Not long, but long enough to fall in love with her.

It's an '05 Elise. When it became clear Lotus would import them to the States, I became a bit obsessive about it as I think it's a very special machine, and my wife and I were able to make it happen. It takes nothing away from the RX-7, but the design philosophies appearing in both cars of light weight, agile handling, and "adequate" power appeal strongly to me. I am, of course, blessed that my wife has a keen interest in motorsport as well. Who do you think the passenger on the sidecar is?

You're right about the long time being separated from fun driving--I miss it very much and realize I took it for granted more than a little bit. I took the overseas gig in order to pay some dues in the hopes I'd be transfered someplace fun to drive for a few years, i.e. Europe. I'm still paying those dues, but my foot's in the door, so to speak.
Best of luck with your turbo install--I'll be seeing you around the site. And thanks for the warm welcome from everyone. It's been fun "officially" diving into the community!
