Banned. I got OWNED!!!
Welcome to the community! Nice to see interest so young. ^^ You seem like a bright guy. I'm still learning about cars - got a long way to go, but if you've got some mechanical aptitude and a brain in your head, it's not so bad. Even I'm getting some headway on the broken little thing in my driveway.

haha i guess im part of the "youngin's" here too. I am only 20 and i just got my fc about a month ago. it will probably be another month before i get her going, but the whole experience is definitely worth it. for about a year i saved up and read about everything i could about the rotary engine, or watched youtube videos. i read all sorts of threads and internet websites. also got the haynes manual and downloaded the factory manual.
its so much different when you actually start to work on the car though.
i have my dad helping me with everything so i am not completely lost.
and welcome to the forum!

lol, well... i didnt get this big of a welcome, only cause i crawled my way through the site without getting apex seals to the face.
welcome and hope you like it here... although before asking around so much. i would also like to stress that many members will incinerate aka flame you if you do not use the MIGHTY SEARCH BAR. in many cases before i bought my first RX7. i did a lot of research through this forums specifics(i was mainly in the 2nd gen specs). besides the forum, i use google and so on to find out what things needed to be done before asking.
good luck to you

Get a flame suit...if you hang around here long enough, you will need it. Whilst everyone here is nice...there are some that just WANT to argue.
Aside from that, welcome, and definitely save for parts...cuz youll want to buy lots of them. First things I suggest are polyurethane suspension bushings, and toe steer eliminators. Aside from that, go nuts on whatever strikes you, but do your research carefully. 9 parts of 10, in most advertisements are trying to sell the product...try to find the 1 part that is true, and buy based on that.
My 7 has been in a constant state of torn apart since i got it 3 years ago. I think ive driven it a total of like 4 months. But it has stuff done to it! All new poly bushings, T2 transmission, rebuilt clutch type diff, roll cage, relocated battery, stainless steel brake and clutch lines, 6 puck clutch and 13lb act flywheel, new clutch slave (it no longer leaks!) new brake lines for hydraulic hand brake, and ebc yellow pads. Im sure theres something im missing, but thats all i can think of for the moment.

I had a flatmate tighten on my drive shaft after replacing the gearbox once. The bolts wern't tightened up properly and subsequently vibrated out. The last one while I was shooting up a passing lane at 160kph. Never did find that drive shaft.

Welcome glad to see a few more “locals” making it on to the site
Get a manual no question; the input and driving experience are far superior.
Are you looking at a turbo? (Not sure of the regulations in Vic). I have two S5 great cars, one is daily driven the other is a track car. The daily driven one has given me no problems in the 3 years I have had it, and has not been off the road for one day due to problems.
If you are prepared to be vigilant and spend a little more to find a clean, stock model, you will thank yourself in the long run (as will you wallet).
