CA Hello, and Thanks for the warm welcome.

Hi all,
My name is Kurt!
I am a long time gear head, new to the rotary. I've always loved the wankel engine and have had my fathers RX7 since he passed away in 08. He bought it in 87. It's a 1984 GSL-SE, 13B 6-port EFI.

I've always wanted to rebuild/restore his RX7, and he and I planned to do that someday as a father/son project. Unfortunately he passed unexpectedly in 08, so I decided last year I'm gonna go ahead and restore it myself. It's in great shape and was running fine with 220K+ miles on it.

I have almost completed rebuilding the short block, but I have a question/concern:

When looking for new rotor housings (the originals couldn't be reused), I found a couple of very new looking peripheral ported housings that I ended up buying. They apparently had only 3K on them and were used for racing. They look great and all the specs I did on them indicate they have lots of life in them.

However, I didn't care much for the porting (actually, semi-peripheral ported), and so I plugged the ports with freeze plugs in favor of the original normally aspirated 6-port EFI design. I'd rather have a nice road car and not interested in racing.

That all seemed just fine and doesn't hamper my ability to use the housings like the originals, but I just realized that there are 2 additional openings next to the exhaust ports, and it turns out these housings are probably from a 1980 that used a thermal reactor.

So, having no interest in changing the exhaust layout, I'd like to just block those openings so I can continue to use the 84-85 catalytic exhaust scenario.

Does anyone see any challenges to my build? As I indicated, I'm new to rebuilding the rotary, but lots of piston build experience, so I'm a little aprehensive about dropping it back in to the chassis until I'm sure I'm on the right path.

Thanks, everyone!
