Hello from Michigan

Hello

Proud new owner of a BB FD Touring (Ignore the for sale sticker this was immediately after I got it off the trailer at my house).

In my past life I have owned a '94 Integra and an '08 350z (Just sold 350z to buy this) both of which I enjoyed doing weekend circuit racing events. I'm a mechanical engineer and have access to some cool equipment for diagnostic and luckily other engineers for some advice Electrical and Software if needed. I have already taken apart CPU2 and started diagnosing and repairing / deleting sections for alarm stuff that I don't think is really necessary and will probably just cause issues in the future.

Needs some love but has a strong new street ported engine ~200 miles on the rebuild.

As I've been getting into it most of the bushings are shot and has the normal electrical gremlins (Most of the Instrument Panel Gauges don't work, CPU2 has some issues. Have already changed out coolant, engine oil, diff oil and trans oil, so I have most of the basic stuff out of the way. But overall, the car appears to be a good base for a beginning based on what I see.

Looking forward to getting it fully back up to full capabilities and getting to experience the legendary chassis.

Welcome!!! Beautiful FD!! Do you know any of the car's history? Sounds like you're ob the right path with what you've already done thus far!

I have pieced some of the history together.

Spent almost all its life in Florida, 1st owner had it for first 80k, sold in 2013, 2nd owner mileage is unsure because odometer is dead. I ended up buying it from a performance shop in South Carolina who purchased it from the 2nd owner in 2016. (Did a VIN check for all that info)

From the shops story, they had intentions of doing a 500whp drag car but never got around to finishing the project as they started doing high horsepower GTR's. According to the build sheet the compression was 125 +/- 2 psi on all faces. I ran compression and didn't get numbers that high (Got about 96 psi with schrader valve depressed) but, I also didn't have a good way of knowing cranking RPM so I am just going to keep checking it periodically during break in for now. Maybe I will video it next time so I can work backwards and count pulses / second and figure out cranking speed that way. I will say, the compression pulses were all perfectly the same and engine is perfectly smooth during warm up so everything is pointing in a good direction. Starts up cold or hot perfectly.

Motor was rebuilt / re-machined using used housings and irons by a local rotary builder in South Carolina in 2017. Then it looks like the car sat at the shop until they decided to sell it.

I probably plan to do a build thread as I go through the car and try and detail some of the restoration work that is needed.

I unfortunately don't have any receipts from the build that state where engine work was done. I was just told by the shop owner that the builder had been building rotaries for more than 20 years. Only thing that bothers me is I know there are 2mm seals in but I don't know the brand. I am currently running OMP and premix to be safe, there is no CAT so not concerned with doing this for now. I know this could make break-in take longer but I would like to avoid any issues. I have read plenty of information stating that most chatter on housings is caused during break-in due to inadequate lubrication for some softer seals.

A couple more pics attached, pulled car into its new home ( Too many kids toys laying around ). And a quick shot of part of the engine bay. Not 100% on the intake situation but works for now, I think some kind of K&N setup.

Still not solid on what exactly I want to end up doing long term with it. Wtick with twins or look at going single in the future? I'm a big fan of simplicity (KISS method).

Kalamazoo area.

I actually popped over there and I wasn't sure if the forum was still active, hadn't seen any recent activity when I checked. I will go and introduce myself over there too!

Thanks!
