Hello from Gadsden Al

My name is Steve Alex and I am the original owner of my 1991 RX7 Convertible. I think that was the last year the convertible was sold in the US. The car has 77,000 original miles, has never been wrecked or had any major problems - except for my abuse!! That abuse is that I've let it sit for the last 10 years without properly pickling it.

I probably drove it for about 7 years as my primary car. I classify it as one of my two favorite cars, the other being an 86 Thunderbird TurboCoupe - that I probably still have if had not got caught in a hail storm with too many dings to count.

Anyhow I needed a truck for some reason and started driving the Ranger more often. The roof got a leak and so I covered it and low and behold a year or so passed. I got it back in running condition a few times over the last ten year, but decided at that time that I was going to save it for my Grandson who just turned 15 this rear. My chore now it to restore it so I can give it to him after high school. Don't think my son or I really want him having this as a first car - if you know what I mean.

I bought the car in Montgomery Alabama and moved to Gadsden about two years ago. That was my last attempt to get it going and this time I failed. I used to be a mechanic years ago, but on F4's in the Air Force. I diagnosed it as it was not getting fuel and ran out of time so I towed it to Gadsden.

I am finally ready to attack it with vigor. Removing the fuel pump and tank I pretty much confirmed my fuel problem diagnosis with about a half inch of varnish sludge.

I guess I will mention that the last time I got it running in pretty good shape - about 5 years or so ago, I tried to use it a couple time a week, but I'd go to the store, or work or the golf course and I'd come out and it would not start or even turn over. Letting it set for an hour or so, it would start. Figured some relay was sticking. Since I couldn't find the problem or trust it, it unfortunately when back to a covered state.

Anyhow I look forward to searching for my problems and finding soloutions through this site.

Steve
