GA Hello

Just wanted to hop on here and shoutout. Purchased my friend's 1989 Mazda RX7 Turbo II recently and I figured to start here. He may have had the car up for sale here, but I happened to be in the market for a car and we came to a deal. Probably gonna take a bit of heat for this one, but the car does have an SR20DET in it.

Other than the swap and some light engine mods, it's mostly stock. I have plans to restore the interior and do some stylization to it, but ultimately my goals for the car are drifting / DD with some decent power. More pics / progressiveness posted eventually, but really first and foremost just wanted to shout out (mod list was from his FS thread). Car runs great and pulls strong, and no leaks.

Take care guys.

Specs
230k miles
S13 SR20DET swap

welcome!! I'm also going on SR swap due to parts and cheap maintenance...give up for now on rotary...I've seen this build (https://www.rx7club.com/other-engine-conversions-non-v-8-118/sr20-fc-build-815509/) but got some doubts and needed more pics...(I've seen your ideas ("Discussion of swapping the entire dash in (S13 dash that is) as I have done research and have seen that the FC can take an FD dash, S13 dash, and S14 dash directly") and was questioning about...could you display some pics please? if PM better )

Yes that is the car. I bought it from an old friend. I helped him do some small stuff on it like bleed brakes, and saw its build progress at a local shop's facility he used to build it. Great car. As far as the photos for the dash are...check below!

I've always been a purist myself like anyone else, refusal to put domestic engines in Imports and not drive domestic vehicles, but really the question should be "why not"? It's a cool unique swap, and it's still Japanese.

Having owned like 6 or 7 cars including two AE86's, Corolla XRS w 6 speed Celica 2ZZGE, S12, S13, S14, (Almost had an S15 also, had a deposit on it and backed out..lost the deposit), and even a Hyundai Genesis R Spec for a short period (insurance was ridiculous on it for me lol).

I do plan to purchase another RX7 (I want an FD with a 20B) that has a rotary in case you're wondering. I'm not a huge fan of owning a V8 anything, though inline 6 was my next direction I was planning to go...we'll see what happens.

I plan to drift, and this is my daily as well. I know pistons, and not saying I'm scared of rotary, but I need something I know how to work on for a daily driver so I went with the SR, I don't know any rotary people other than a few shops here in Atlanta I use to visit (Like Mazcare)

Thank you... You did the right choice, I started with my 7 on daily and Drifting some times too but later I've got issues and in august my engine broke down(lost compression on the rear rotor) and after that I was asking myself repair or swap...well I look at the costs and parts available and took the decision of swapping...I'm glad that I've experienced what a rotary engine is (because it's unique and really like a drug you just only want more!) and recommend that you experience(a turbo one) it as well...

I have driven RX7's before, NA and drifted an NA RX7 and enjoyed the smooth powerband they have to offer. Way more controllable I think than piston engines under load for sliding, but I wanted to do a mix of something I knew to work on plus a new platform that wasn't a 240, and this is what I got. I want a rotary turbo one for a race car for sure

and thanks guys...have plans for the car in store for the next few months, as time permits. I need a garage to work on the ride, for now I'm planning the ride out.
